The coronation of the 2015-2016 Rensselaer County Dairy Princess Isabella “Bella” Wiley happened only a short year ago in April of 2015. Her reign will soon come to a close as Rensselaer County prepares to elect the 2016-2017 Dairy Princess on April 30th.

Hoosic Valley Celebrates Music in Our Schools Month – by C. Barton
March was Music in our Schools Month and the Hoosic Valley Music Department and students did an incredible job bringing music to the Hoosic Valley Schools and surrounding communities. It has been proven that there is a valuable link between music education and academic success. The study of music helps develop language and reasoning, improves memorization skills, increases coordination and the sense of achievement keeps students engaged throughout their school days.

Tomhannock Reservoir Clean Up – by C. Barton
Tomhannock Reservoir- On Saturday April 16th from 9am to noon the Rensselaer Land Trust (RLT) in partnership with the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA) will be holding the annual Tomhannock Reservoir Shoreline Cleanup Day. The mission of the RLT is to “conserve the open spaces, watersheds and natural habitats of Rensselaer County for the benefit of our communities and future generations.” Both organizations partner annually with the local community to dedicate a day each year to clean up the shoreline of one of the areas major water sources.

Easter Hunt at Presbyterian United – by C. Barton
Schaghticoke- On March 26th from 2-3:30pm the Easter Bunny made his way to the Presbyterian United Church in Schaghticoke. The Schaghticoke Community Builders sponsored this event. Snacks, crafts and a variety of different activities were set up for the kids during the afternoon.

Schaghticoke Troop Honors Girl Scout Tradition – by C. Barton
SCHAGHTICOKE - The mission of the Girl Scouts reads, “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.” Girl Scout Troop #1891 based out of Schaghticoke lived out this mission by celebrating Girl Scout week with a variety of activities that took place throughout their community.
