Hoosic Valley Students Perform – by C. Barton

Hoosic Valley high school students, Kayla Carknard, senior, Kyle Norton, junior and Gregory Wolosen, junior, were selected to join the stage for this years Capital Region Holiday favorite, the Melodies of Christmas. The holiday extravaganza is sponsored each year by CBS 6. The performances were held at Proctors Theatre on December 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

Operation Christmas Child – Christine Barton

Schaghticoke-The Hoosic Valley Community Church at 2024 NY 40 in Schaghticoke is once again a participating drop off location for this years Samaritan’s Purse-Operation Christmas Child project. The church has been a collection point since 2008. Operation Christmas Child is one of many projects organized through Samaritan’s Purse which is a nondenominational international Christian relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, natural disasters, disease, family poverty and persecution in more than 100 countries.

Interview with HV Baseball’s Coach Brooks – by S. DeCelle

All athletes dream of the “dog pile”, they want to experience that moment where you win the championship and get to celebrate with your teammates and friends. Sometimes many even practice in the back yard with a couple friends when you’re a child. You want to be the best.

Hoosic Valley Baseball got to do their championship dog pile, and was lucky enough to do it two years in a row because they were the best.

Hoosic Valley Pops Concert – by C. Barton

Hoosic Valley-The Hoosic Valley Central School District presented a Pops Concert on Tuesday March 31st at 7pm in the High School Gym. Music students from grades 5-12 performed to a full auditorium. The combined musical talent of the Hoosic Valley band and chorus performances complimented each other throughout the program and provided an evening of entertainment to the many that came out to support the districts musical programs.

Our February Virtue of the Month is Friendship. Our students recognized for their "good friend" qualities are: Madalyn Nichlos, Brielle Chapko, Isabella Jones, Jayden Dawsen, Warren Reynolds, Alexis Brundige, Jacob Cail, Tyler Jones, Henry Madigan, Henry Brown, Chloee Edson, Olivia LaRoe, Kate Ricciardone, Isaiah Ring, Evan Maloney, Christopher Jones, Tyler Beaudoin, Terrie-Anne Cotrell, Kiera Matala, Jillian Johnson, Cailin Miller, and Jennifer Brayman.

Christmas Hang-Ups at Hoosic Valley – by C. Barton

Schaghticoke –The Hoosic Valley Community Church hosted the children’s musical, Christmas Hang-Ups, a work of Dennis and Nan Allen, on December 14th at 6pm at the church site. This “humorous and engaging story,” had upbeat holiday songs, an engaging cast and a message relevant to the holiday season. The musical showcased for the community the true talent of the children’s cast.

Hoosic Valley Passes Elementary School Referendum – by C. Barton

Hoosic Valley- District residents were asked to vote on a $2,200,000 bond referendum relating to repairs needed in the elementary school building on September 16, 2014. The referendum for the roof and energy management system replacement presented at the polls was approved. Votes came back with 100 yes votes and 59 no votes. The project cost is estimated at $2.200,000, the estimated interest cost is $1,069,500 for a total ending cost of $3,269,500.  Revenues to support the project include state building aid which is estimated at $2,433,750 and local tax share of $835,750 which will be spread over 16 years.
