Luigi ‘Louie’ Squeglia – 76

MECHANICVILLE - Luigi “Louie” Sgueglia, 76, of Hudson Ave., died Monday, February 23, at Saratoga Hospital following a short illness. Born in Caserta, Italy, June 7, 1938, son of the late Nicolo and Rosina Mastoianni Sgueglia, Louie came to the United States at the age of 17.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 PM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Thursday from 4-7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Luigi Sgueglia.

MECHANICVILLE – Lorraine A. Salway Rubino, 75, of Railroad St., died Tuesday, Feb. 24th at home, in the loving company of her family.Calling hours will be held at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N Main St., Mechanicville, on Thursday from 4-7PM.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at the Church with entombment to follow in St. Paul’s Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Saratoga, in loving memory of Lorraine A. Rubino.

Hawks & Owls at Mechanicville Library – by S. McBride

More than 60 people, from toddlers to senior citizens, braved the cold February wind on Thursday to take the opportunity to meet up close and personal some fascinating birds of prey at the Mechanicville District Public Library.  Mike Gaylo of Hawks, Owls and Wildlife in Buskirk, a biologist, rehabilatator and licensed falconer with 35 years’ experience working with these beautiful birds, introduced four of them to the gathering in the library’s presentation room.

MECHANICVILLE - In the event of a major snowstorm, the commissioner may call for a snow emergency. Also, if there are three or more inches falling there is a snow emergency and will most likely be in the media. To be notified of a snow emergency, go to the city's website and click on the tab saying 'notify me' and fill out the required information.

SUNY Potsdam student athlete Madison Mahar earns SUNYAC Fall All-Academic Team accolade

POTSDAM, NY (02/13/2015)(readMedia)-- Madison Mahar, a resident of Stillwater, N.Y. was one of 42 SUNY Potsdam student-athletes to earn a spot on the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic Team for the Fall semester, the conference announced Wednesday, February 12.

Mahar is a Freshman member of the SUNY Potsdam Women's Soccer team. Players named to the all-academic team have a minimum of a 3.3 GPA for the Fall 2014 semester.

MECHANICVILLE FEBRUARY 12- One hundred and eighty people attended the Community Hearts Gala at the Fairways of Halfmoon on Thursday evening. The award recipients were all nominated by local members of the community who contributed short essays on their behalf.

Mechanicville Policemen Recognized

MECHANICVILLE - Police Chief Waldron recently awarded patrol officers Mark Sauter and Alex Dunn the “Life Saving Medal” for actions taken during an EMS call this past summer.  Both officers provided lifesaving care to a stricken female which had a direct impact on her survival.  Had it not been for their actions the outcome would have been much more dire.

Police Chief Waldron also presented patrol officers Anthony Toleman and John “Dee” Pugliese with certificates honoring them for 10 years of meritorious service.
