MECHANICVILLE - Mrs. Olympia Lanzone D’Amico, 92, of Viall Ave. Hill, died Monday, April 6th, at home, in the loving company of her family.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main ST., Mechanicville. Burial in Saratoga National Cemetery.Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7 PM.

Connors Agency’s 60th Anniversary

MECHANICVILLE- On April 15th, the Connors Agency will celebrate its 60th anniversary.  John H. Connors built the agency from scratch in 1955 with the focus to provide quality insurance products & services in local communities along with public service.  Over the years Mr. Connors has played a variety of roles in the world of insurance and real estate.  In addition Mr. Connors served as Mayor of the city of Mechanicville from 1960 to 1968 and was elected President of the NYS Conference of Mayors during his second term.

Mechanicville’s Firemen Who Went to War – by S. McBride

Whenever someone shares a book or booklet with me from years ago, a hidden treasure they’ve found among their family’s possessions, I am delighted. So it was when Scott Smith recently dropped off at the Express office a booklet from the 58th Annual Convention of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association which was held here in Mechanicville on June 26, 27 and 28 in 1947. But this booklet has even more meaning, more poignancy, than the usual commemorative publication.

Palm Sunday is the traditional kickoff of Holy Week, arguably the most important week of the year for Christians.  There can be no better way to celebrate Palm Sunday, and thereby take in the spiritual meaning of Holy Week, than to immerse yourself in a stirring tale of the events of that week through readings and music in the setting of a soaring church with the late afternoon sun streaming through colorful stained glass windows.

Barbara Marshall Sgambati – 75

MECHANICVILLE – Barbara Marshall Sgambati, 75, of No. Central Ave., died Wednesday, March 25, at Saratoga Care Ctr., Ballston Spa, after an extended illness.

Born in Poughkeepsie, June 5, 1939, daughter of the late Clifton and Catherine Wixted Marshall, Barb was also predeceased by her brother Robert Marshall, who died in 2014.

A homemaker, Barb enjoyed embroidering and bingo, daily telephone visiting with family and friends.  A proud Mother and Grandmother, Barb loved her family.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years Stephen W. “Billy” Sgambati, her beloved daughter Darlene and husband Bill Reil of Pasadena, Md., two precious grandsons Joshua and Nathan Reil, along with in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment in Memory’s Garden, Colonie. There will be no public services.

Remembrances may be made to Mechanicville/Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk, 270 So. Main St., Mechanicville, 12118 in memory of Barbara Marshall Sgambati.

Mechanicville Resident Awarded Scholarship

Dover, Del. - Kylie Liberty, a sophomore accounting major from Mechanicville, N.Y., received a scholarship at Wesley College’s Founders Day on March 18. The Reynolds du Pont Endowed Scholarship was established in 1981 by the estate of Reynolds du Pont who was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1962-1973, and served as Chair of the Board from 1973-1980. The recipients of this award are selected by the faculty of the Business Administration Department.?

Mrs. Josephine “Jay” Palmer – 93

MECHANCIVILLE – Mrs. Josephine “Jay” Palmer, 93, of Kennedy Gardens, died peacefully on Monday, March 23, at Gateway House of Peace of Milton, NY

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at Noon at All Saints on the Hudson SouthChurch, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Entombment in St. Paul’s Mausoleum. Calling hours at the church on Saturday from 10 – 11:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
