World Day of Prayer – by Sandy McBride

In a gathering and tradition that is nearly 100 years old, our local churches will once again link hands around the world to celebrate World Day of Prayer on March 4 at 1 p.m. at the Stillwater United Church on North Hudson Avenue in the village.   The first World Day of Prayer service was held on January 9, 1920 in Canada, followed five weeks later by services held in the United States.  There are now 170 nations around the world that join in this moving ceremony that not only empowers women, but calls attention to the challenges, the problems and the trials they face every day.

Senator Marchione Hosts Leap of Kindness

Because 2016 is a leap year, "Leap of Kindness Day" is all about using the extra day to do something kind for someone else. On Leap of Kindness Day Senator Marchione was joined by several local officials to visit with, and thank, area senior citizens for everything they have done to help build our state and nation. Leap of Kindness Day is promoted by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.

WORCESTER, MA (03/01/2016)-- Alyssa Paul is a member of the WPI women's basketball team that has been selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship tournament which begins later this week.

The Engineers will face host Scranton (Pa.) on Friday at a time yet to be determined. Friday will also see Marymount (Va.) and Cabrini square off in the other game of the doubleheader. Both winners will face each otheron Saturday.

Games times and ticket prices will be announced later Monday or early Tuesday.

MECHANICVILLE – John E. Landry, 57, of Route 67, died suddenly Sunday, Feb 28th at Albany Medical Center, after being stricken at home.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at Noon at All Saints of the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Dorothy Welch Choral 40 Years – by S. McBride

July 4, 1976 was a milestone in American history as the United States of America celebrated its 200th birthday.  Here in Mechanicville, as in communities all across the country, the festivities were well-planned long in advance of the day, and designed by the city’s Bicentennial Committee to be celebratory, reverent, respectful, loud and joyous.  The committee and the Mechanicville City Council honored a proposal by the Mechanicville Council of Churches to begin the day’s events with an ecumenical service of Thanksgiving in Tallmadge Park.
