MECHANICVILLE – Patrick J. DiSiena, 61, of Hemstreet Park, died Monday, Dec. 8th, at home, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville. Entombment in St. Paul’s Mausoleum.

Calling hours at the North Main Street Church on Thursday from 4-7 PM.Remembrances may be made to American Diabetes Assoc., Pine West Plaza, Bldg 2, Suite 204, Washington Ave Ext,Albany, 12205.

Puppet People to Perform Christmas Carol at Library – J. Dugan

The Puppet People will bring Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to life at the Mechanicville District Public Library. The popular local puppet company will put their own spin on this beloved holiday classic with their handcrafted marionettes and vivid set design. The event, which is sponsored by the Mechanicville Friends of the Library group, will take place on Monday, December 8 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

Rotary Provides 90 Winter Coats – By Tom Mahoney

The Elvis Patsy Cline concert raised enough money so that the Mechanicville Rotary Club was able to provide over 90 coats to needy school children. Every needy child in Hoosic Valley, Mechanicville, Stillwater, and Waterford school will have a coat for this winter. Harriet Noble Mechanicville Rotary President pointed out "It's  really 90 + families that are impacted '96 not only will the children be healthier, can go to school when it's cold but the parents can now concentrate on other needs they have.

Local Student in Peer Tutor at Hamilton College

Clinton, N.Y. – Emily E. Moore, daughter of Eva and John Moore of Valley Falls, and a senior at Hamilton College, is serving as a peer tutor in the Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning Center (QSR) at Hamilton this year. The mission of the QSR Center is to support students in the development of their academic skills, and to foster collaborative learning and intellectual growth.

Local Students Honored as Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Awards Scholarships for Incoming, Current Students

TROY, NY (11/17/2014)(readMedia)-- Nearly 100 Hudson Valley Community College students received honors and scholarships at the annual Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Scholarship Reception on Friday, Nov. 14.

Each year, the college Foundation recognizes students who were awarded scholarships this past year as well as the donors who make these scholarships possible. The reception took place in the McDonough Sports Complex.

Kathryn Trainor of Clifton Park, NY, Earns Empire 8 Conference Co-Champion Title with Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, NY (11/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Kathryn Trainor of Clifton Park, NY, earned the Empire 8 Conference co-champion title with Nazareth College's women's soccer team. Nazareth and Ithaca met for the 10th time in the finals of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament for women's soccer with an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line. For the sixth time in that stretch, there were two winners. The Golden Flyers and the Bombers played to a 0-0 tie and were declared Empire 8 co-champions. Nazareth then gained the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of a 4-3 advantage in the post-game penalty kick session.

Mechanicville Stillwater Breast Cancer Committee Raises $46K

MECHANICVILLE NOVEMBER 12- On Wednesday evening it was announced that the Mechanicville Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk Committee raised a total of $46,000. Among those who made this a success was the Mechanicville Girls Soccer team. For the 4th consecutive year October was "Pink OUt" month. This year the team raised $4,445 .
