New Beginnings for Maplewood Manor – by H. Wessell

BALLSTON SPA January 29  –-   As of last Sunday Maplewood Manor nursing home in Ballston Spa is known as the Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care.  Zenith Care Health of Westchester County is the new owner, as Saratoga County  joins a veritable cavalcade of New York State municipal nursing homes that have had to be privatized in recent years.

   Civil Service Employee Association employees at Maplewood twice in recent days,  once by a wide margin and by two votes in a  re- vote requested by the membership on Monday, January 26, voted down a contract offer from Zenith, chosen to be eventual  purchaser of the facility in late 2013.

Jobs, Salaries to Change at Maplewood – by H. Wessell

STILLWATER AND BALLSTON SPA -- According to a document provided to Maplewood Manor employees,  presumptive purchaser of the facility Zenith Healthcare proposes to cut 27 full- and part-time nurse and sixty full- and part-time nursing aide positions  — along with about nine food service related workers; and thereby to save more than $1.8 million – this, as well as proposed pay cuts, many reaching well over forty percent for various positions.

Random Governmental Funding No Lasting Help to Maplewood -By Harold Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, Feb. 14: Saratoga County  will be spared some of the cost burdens of Maplewood Manor county nursing home –  this year. Officials point out that what is something of a windfall this year might not amount to much next year.

The Board of Supervisors at its business meeting, postponed from this week to  Feb. 26 due to an annual conference for many county officials, will vote to accept an additional $4,739, 473 in Federal Medicaid assistance, which after a local match, nets

$2,288,218.

Opposition to Maplewood Sale As Strong As Ever – By Harold Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, Jan. 9 ñ The crowd was much smaller that a recent public meeting, but the voices were as strong, for a public hearing before the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors in advance of their scheduled vote this Tuesday on the transfer of Maplewood Manor to a Local Development Corporation (LDC) that will manage its intended sale to a private operator.
