NYSEG Makes Application; Bridges in Mechanicville – by T. Mahoney

MECHANICVILLE JUNE 30- In order to lift the moratorium in the Mechanicville area for increased natural gas customers, NYSEG will need to construct a compressed gas facility at its location on Central Avenue. The plan is for 2 trucks at a time to deliver compressed natural gas.

Waterford Town Police Arrests

On Sunday, July 5, 2015 while investigating a vehicle which was partially blocking a driveway, PO Gibbins arrested the below listed defendant and charged her with:

Driving While Intoxicated

Driving with more than .08 of 1% of alcohol

Failure to Obey a Police Officer

It was found that the defendant was operating a vehicle with a B.A.C. of 0.11%. The defendant was issued 3 UTTs and released and is scheduled to appear in Waterford Justice Court on July 16, 2015 at 6 PM.

On Saturday, July 4, 2015 at about 8:50 PM Sgt. P. O’Connell received a call in regards to a vehicle being driven recklessly in the Town of Waterford, Upon stopping the vehicle and after investigating the below listed defendant was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

The defendant was issued a UTT and is scheduled to appear in Waterford Justice Court on July 16, 2015 at 6 PM.

Historic Hudson Welcome Center in Schuylerville, by H. Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, June 24 –  After some six years of preparation, members of the Historic Hudson-Hoosic Partnership are optimistic that a key project for their consortium can get underway, probably next spring, and be completed that year.

   Last week's Express reported that  on June 18 the State Senate unanimously passed Sen. Kathleen Marchione's bipartisan legislation, following a companion measure introduced by Assemblywoman Carried Woerner and passed in that chamber, that strengthens the Partnership.

Mary Canonica Celebrates 100 Years – by S. McBride

Mary Josephine LaVigna Canonica was born on July 13, 1915.  It had been just two years since Henry Ford devised an assembly line so he could produce those new-fangled things known as automobiles more quickly, economically and efficiently.  And it had been only a year since Germany declared war on France, Great Britain declared war on Germany, Austria-Hungary declared war on Russia and the United States declared neutrality in all those conflicts and even offered to broker a peaceful settlement before it all exploded into a world-wide war.

As we celebrate summer, and the 4th of July, I thought it would be fun to find out how our ancestors celebrated the holiday 100 years ago. As you might think, it was the same and different.

   One-hundred years ago, Europe was embroiled in what was later known as World War I. But the U.S. wouldn’t enter the war for two more years, Europe was a long ways away, and citizens here were ready to celebrate the birth of their nation. The celebration was a little different from the usual because the 4th was a Sunday, and in 1915 no celebration could really occur on a Sunday.

Stillwater to Re-Open Hall of Fame – by S. DeCelle

The inaugural class elected into the Stillwater High School Hall of Fame may have some company this upcoming year. After eight years of a standstill, Coach Ian Lewis and Athletic Director Michael Kinney are heading the movement to re-open the hall to honor the school district’s outstanding athletes and coaches.

  Stillwater’s Hall of Fame currently consists of eight members. Six individual athletes as well as two teams sit in the hall.
