Historic Hudson Welcome Center in Schuylerville, by H. Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, June 24 –  After some six years of preparation, members of the Historic Hudson-Hoosic Partnership are optimistic that a key project for their consortium can get underway, probably next spring, and be completed that year.

   Last week's Express reported that  on June 18 the State Senate unanimously passed Sen. Kathleen Marchione's bipartisan legislation, following a companion measure introduced by Assemblywoman Carried Woerner and passed in that chamber, that strengthens the Partnership.

GlobalFoundries Foundation Awards – by H. Wessell

TOWN OF STILLWATER, June 18 – The huge check displayed to the right of the podium at Stillwater Town Hall read  $49,800. It was gone in a half hour – as various amounts were given as grants to eighteen different Stillwater-connected civic and other organizations in the 2015 awards ceremony of the GlobalFoundries-Stillwater Foundation.

Sheriff’s Priority: Safety on The Water – by H. Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, June 11 – A government's first duty is to the safety and security of its people.

Keeping people safe, not issuing tickets, is how Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo and his department see it – and any one of them says it, often: "Our biggest thing is safety. We're not just out there to issue tickets or arrest anybody."

New Waterford Policeman Saves Life – by H. Wessell

TOWN OF WATERFORD, June 2 – About a months ago in the Town of Waterford, two of its police officers, trained last year in use of  the drug Naloxone, an antidote capable of reversing in moments  a potentially fatal heroin overdose, for the first time saved a life –  of a man who was as good as dead.

   This month, another Waterford officer, the newest member of the department, did it again.

Many On Hand to Welcome The New Brown’s Beach – by H. Wessell

SARATOGA LAKE, May 30 --There were free hot dogs, free cool mimosas and hors-d'oeuvres provided by Panza's. There was face painting And at the end of the day, as Stillwater Supervisor Edward Kinowski said in his introduction, finding "gold pieces" by kids, and at the end of the game they got drinks or prizes or “real gold dollars... We’ve got a hundred of ‘them to pass out.”

Malta to Preserve Historic Iron Fence – by H. Wessell

TOWN OF MALTA, May 27 - The Malta Town Board will look into the possibility of grant funds to assure preservation and restoration of  what the Supervisor and other members last week called  “one of the few historic features that we have left in our Town:" the Dunning Street Cemetery.
