Crowley is an absolutely gorgeous green eyed 1-year-old boy that was rescued as a kitten from a woodpile and a life of fending for himself outdoors. Crowley is very affectionate and loves attention but has not been adopted yet because he is a "scaredy-cat" ...waiting for a family patient enough to give him the time he needs to trust. He's great with his foster family and with many others that have taken the time to get to know him. Once Crowley gets to know you he's a really amazing guy that will be so grateful to have a forever home. Crowley is great with other cats and dogs. Are you willing to give this regal boy a chance?

Crowley is neutered, up to date on his shots and negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.

Mommy(tiger) & Buddy(Bl & Wht) -This is one of those stories as to why we get angry. This woman moved September 1st and threw her cats out after raising them since they were kittens. We only got 2 and kind of demanded her to go back and find the third. We are updating them on vaccines, flea control, and rabies, but the thought of them having a home one day and not the next makes us cringe. We do not understand, but no matter they are safe now. We are getting overloaded again in our cat room so if someone is looking to adopt a new kitty then please consider coming to ASAS shelter. We want to get our numbers down so ALL OF OUR OLDER CATS ARE JUST A DONATION APPRECIATED. The phone calls will not stop with the oncoming cold weather and we need to make room. Please consider giving them a purrfect home.

Fire Prevention Week

The Arvin Hart Fire Company would again like to thank everyone for their donations during this year’s fund drive.  We have exceeded last year’s monetary total even though only about 15% of the envelopes sent out were returned.

Fire prevention week is coming up and this year’s theme is Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives, Test Yours Monthly.   In an average fire, do you know how long it takes for your smoke detector to activate, under ideal conditions less than 30 seconds.  The Arvin Hart Fire Co will try something different this year with an open house on Wednesday evening October 15th from 5pm to 8pm.  This does a couple of things, changes the time so as to not take away from resident’s weekend and is a regular training night for our members.  We do hope that you would stop by and see us.  It’s very discouraging when our members try to put together a good program and no one cares enough to show up.  After a while we feel that as long as we show up with the big red trucks, no one cares.  Please just stop by for a few minutes at our main station on Campbell at Kellogg Roads.

Bother President Roosevelts Visit Mechanicville – by P. Loatman

The recent PBS series on the Roosevelt family that produced two New York Governors who later became President reminds us that both TR and FDR visited Mechanicville during their public lives. Fresh from his triumphs in Cuba, Teddy Roosevelt, despite being widely acclaimed while campaigning for Governor, left Editor Farrington Mead of The Saturday Mercury clearly unimpressed when he visited Mechanicville in 1898. An outspoken Democrat, Mead dismissed TR’s appeal to local voters by editorializing on October 22: “The Rough Rider left a poor impression in Mechanicville. The consuming vanity of the man drives away support.” Mead’s lack of enthusiasm, however, did little to stop TR from being swept into office by a political landslide.
