MACSC Continues Food Drive Challenge

MECHANICVILLE - MACSC (Mechanicville Area Community Service Center) has now passed the halfway mark to raise funds for fighting hunger. It has accepted the March-April 'Feinstein Challenge'   which will end on April 30, 2014.  The A.S. Feinstein Foundation is making $1,000,000 available. This amount will be awarded proportionately to not-for-profit agencies, which increase donations for fighting food hunger. Donations include:  food, checks, cash and pledges. If MACSC's donations show an increase our food pantry could receive an award up to $35,000.  Today, there is a growing food crisis going on in many parts of our country. And the Mechanicville area is no different.  Many people are on limited income and are at risk of going hungry.  This may be because of job loss, working fewer hours, medical expense; rental hikes, heating costs and other vital expenses.  We also have a large number of residents who were regular donors to our food pantry and now need help. If you plan to donate to this drive, which is honoring Margaret Mehan, you should DO IT NOW. Checks should be made payable to: MACSC and mailed to: Holly LaTorre, MACSC. 6 South Main St, P.O. Box 30, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Your donation offers a double benefit. It will help keep Margaret Mehan's giving spirit alive as well as helping to fight hunger in the Mechanicville area.

City Enacts Controls Over Coin Drops – by H. Wessell

MECHANICVILLE, April 2: "They call  us “Tag Day America,'" Mayor Dennis Baker began as he introduced a local ordinance passed at the April City Council Business session.  "We have people in the streets all the time."

However also, the career police officer added, "We're in violation every time we let them on the road. We're not supposed to tie up a state highway like that," he explained to one questioner. "So we're already in violation. We're trying to work with them, and we just can't do it ... I also know I hear a lot of complaints about people being held up [in traffic]."

Vegas is a 7-year old caramel brown Boxer/Hound mix who is very sweet, very gentle, thoughtful, and well behaved. Because he loves being around people, he wants to be wherever you are. Vegas is a big snugger and a little bit of a goof ball. He has perfect potty habits; he always waits until we take him outside to "go". We are working on introducing Vegas to other dogs. It would better for him to go to a home with older kids..

Like all HOPE dogs, Vegas is neutered, up to date on his shots, and micro-chipped.

Zoe is a "delicate butterfly." This 7-month old long-haired tortoiseshell, flutters around seeking out your attention. When she is not snuggling with you or sitting on your lap, she becomes a great hunter, chasing her squeaky mouse or searching for bugs to conquer. She also enjoys having dinner with you; she will share her food with you and expects you to share your food with her. If you are looking for an affectionate companion that will protect you from insects (in your house) and will occasionally dine with you than Zoe is your gal!

Like all HOPE cats, Zoe is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, worming and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV.

Ms. LaCourse has been the director for the elementary school play and the Pleasant House Players, for several years now. When she came across the information that iTheatrics was accepting nominations for auditions she nominated seven students who are actively involved in theatre at Hoosic Valley. “I would have been happy just that they did it,” says Ms. LaCourse, who was very proud when she found out that “they all made it.”

Christopher Smith, Braden Jarosz, Ellie Carlson-McNally, Sarah Carlson-McNally, Woodrow Miller, Marlee Peterson and Logan Seymour made the trip to New York City for their first Broadway audition.
