Poet and Oral Memoirist to visit Waterford Public Library – by J. Dugan

On Sunday, May 3, the Waterford Public Library will welcome poet and oral memoirist Michael Czarnecki as he presents “Journey on US 20: The Longest Road in America.” This event will feature photographs from his adventures, as well as poems, prose and stories. The program kicks off at 2pm and is presented free to the public, thanks in part to a sponsorship by Poets & Writers, Inc.

Students Raise Nearly $70,000 at 2015 Relay for Life

ONEONTA, NY (04/20/2015)(readMedia)-- Students from SUNY Oneonta and neighboring Hartwick College teamed up to raise $67,293—a record amount—for the American Cancer Society during a Relay for Life event April 17-18, and donations are still coming in. More than 1,500 students camped out all night in SUNY Oneonta's Alumni Field House, with team members taking turns walking laps around the gym from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. The annual event was organized by the Colleges Against Cancer student groups at the two colleges with support from SUNY Oneonta's Center for Social Responsibility and Community (CSRC).

Local Students Elected to Phi Beta Kappa at SUNY Geneseo

Robert Krupanich Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

131 Students Receive 2014-2015 Susan Sutton Smith Award

ONEONTA, NY (04/10/2015)(readMedia)-- A total of 131 students received the SUNY Oneonta 2014-2015 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a freshman, sophomore or junior with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.

Student award winners receive a certificate, a gift card to the campus bookstore, and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture and reception. Dr. Joseph Pignato, associate professor of music at SUNY Oneonta, will deliver this year's lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Craven Lounge of the college's Morris Conference Center. Pignato is the 21st recipient of the Susan Sutton Smith Faculty Prize for Academic Excellence, created to recognize faculty achievement outside the classroom and named in memory of the late SUNY Oneonta professor of English.

Ryan McGrath inducted into honor society at FDU

MADISON, NJ (03/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Waterford, NY resident, Ryan McGrath, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metro in Teaneck, NJ, has been inducted into FDU's Phi Omega Epsilon for the Fall 2014 semester. Eligibility for membership in the University's senior honor society is established by completing at least 90 earned credits toward an undergraduate degree with a CGPR of 3.50. Of these 90 credits, the last 58 must have been taken at the University, and a CGPR of 3.20 must have been maintained for all of them. All the preceding requirements must have been fulfilled prior to the accumulation of 112 credits. Transfer students who are unable to fulfill the prerequisite 58-credit requirement will be able to establish eligibility if they have taken at least 32 credits prior to the accumulation of 112 credits and if they have maintained a CGPR of 3.50 during their entire career at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Union College students study abroad during spring term

SCHENECTADY, NY (03/23/2015)(readMedia)-- Union students will travel to Cambodia, Italy, England and and many others more as part of the College's spring term study abroad program.

Union College offers a diverse array of study abroad programs for its students. Union is ranked #7 in the country by the Princeton Review for its study abroad program, and about 60 percent of Union students will study abroad during their time at the College.

Alyssa Bonesteel of Melrose, NY, will travel to London, England, studying European government, politics, culture and globalization. Bonesteel is majoring in Political Science and a member of the Class of 2017.

Brandon Jones of Mechanicville, NY, will travel to Sicily, studying the Italian language, history and culture of Sicily and conducting scientific research. Jones is majoring in Biochemistry and a member of the Class of 2016.

Jeffrey Williams of Waterford, NY, will travel to Florence, Italy, studying the Italian language and Renaissance architecture. Williams is majoring in Economics and a member of the Class of 2017.

Clifton Park Native Brian Powell Inducted into International Honorary Marketing Fraternity
