Valley Falls FD Awarded Bid – by Christine Barton

 

Town of Pittstown-A letter of concern went out to town and village residents in early August, urging them to attend the August 11th Town Council meeting to show support for the Valley Falls Fire Department to continue to provide the fire protection services to the Tomhannock District Residents.

According to the information in the letter “the Valley Falls fire department has been providing services to the Tomhannock District for more than 50 years.”  It kept it’s rate flat on town residents for the five years from 2007 to 2011 and then cut its tax rate by 15% in the past 3 years.” The information in the letter titled “Tomhannock District Residents Tell Pittswtown Town Council: Say YES to Valley Falls Fire Department, was confirmed as accurate by Richard Andrew, Mayor of Valley Falls.

 

Al Lewis Honored at Hoosic Valley School – by C. Barton

 

Valley Falls-Al Lewis, sponsor chair and longtime volunteer for the Hoosic Valley Athletic Association (HVAA) was surprised with the honor of having his name listed on the 2014 Hoosic Valley Boys State Championship sign that was unveiled at a Valley Cats Game this month. Lewis, has been a longtime officer of the HVAA and a fan of all school and community sports. Lewis has been involved with community sports for 44 years now as a volunteer and has worked with the he HVAA since its start in 1971. “I enjoy all the watching all the sports and seeing the kids get involved”, says Lewis.

Marcel Garbos Makes the Spring 2014 Dean's List at Bard College at Simon's Rock

 GREAT BARRINGTON, MA (08/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Bard College at Simon's Rock announces that Marcel Garbos of Clifton Park, NY, has earned a place on the dean's list for the 2014 spring semester. To be eligible for this honor a student must carry 14 or more credits and achieve a grade point average of 3.5.

Garbos attended Shenendehowa High School East before leaving after 10th grade to start college early.

University of Rhode Island names more than 4,000 students to the Spring 2014 Dean's List

KINGSTON, RI (08/11/2014)(readMedia)-- The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that more than 4,000 undergraduates have qualified for the Spring 2014 Dean's List. The students represent all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, many other states and more than a dozen countries. More than half of the students are Rhode Islanders.

To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 credits with a 3.30 quality point average.

Margaret Sanderson earns Spring Academic Honors from SUNYAC

ONEONTA, NY (08/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Margaret Sanderson, of Schaghticoke, NY, was one of 50 SUNY Oneonta student-athletes named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List for the Spring 2014 season.

To qualify for the All-Academic Team, a student must be varsity athlete who has completed the entire season and earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 for the semester in which they competed. In addition, to be named to the Commissioner's List, the student athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 based on three semesters at the institution. (Does not have to be consecutive semesters). Sanderson, who is majoring in Elementary Ed., was a member of the Track & Field team.
