Stillwater Police arrested Tracy L. Russom (age 48) on a Stillwater Town Court Bench warrant for a probation violation after she was located in Troy by bail bond agents. She was arraigned in Stillwater Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail with $40,000.00 bail bond. Several additional warrants from area police agencies were also lodged against the defendant. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Sean Lyons.

Stillwater Police arrested Nicholas P. Travis (agw31) of Clifton Park and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on Tow Path Road. He was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Sean Lyons.

Stillwater Police arrested John E. Bonoski (age 33) of Cohoes and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on County Route 75. He was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Sean Lyons.

Stillwater Police arrested Danielle C. Nelson (age 51) of Albany and charged her with 2 counts of Hindering Prosecution 3rd degree (misdemeanor) following an investigation. The investigation began after the defendant’s sister (Johnette Nelson) impersonated her during a vehicle stop in Stillwater in April 2015 and subsequently continued to impersonate her during 2 court dates by signing her sister’s name on court documents. This was done to conceal a revoked license and for being on probation in Albany County. Johnette Nelson was arrested on 8/15/15 for felony fraud and is currently being held without bail in Saratoga County Jail.

It was discovered during the investigation that Danielle Nelson knowingly and willing drove her sister to Stillwater Town Court on 2 occasions for the purpose of allowing her to continue to impersonate her on court documents. The defendant’s actions rendering criminal assistance to a person who was committing a felony.

The defendant was processed and released with an appearance ticket for Stillwater Town Court.

The investigation was handled by 1st Sgt. Ray Cordani.

Stillwater Police arrested John H. Barling (age 46) of Saratoga Springs and charged him with Endangering the Welfare of a Child (misdemeanor) and Permitting Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (infraction) following an incident which occurred in Stillwater.

On Saturday August 15, 2015, Stillwater Police were alerted by a civilian that a young child was observed operating a pick-up truck on Route 9P. Police were able to locate the vehicle a short distance away and stopped it. A ten year old child was found to be the operator. It was revealed during the investigation that the child’s father was intoxicated in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The child was turned over to a family member and the father was arrested. He was released with an appearance ticket returnable in Stillwater Town Court. Saratoga County Child Protective Services were also contacted by police. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Keith Clinton.

Stillwater Police arrested Christopher A. Peretz (age 18) of Stillwater and charged him with Aggravated Harassment 2nd degree (misdemeanor) and Criminal Mischief 4th degree (misdemeanor) following a domestic incident at a residence in which another person was physically harassed and a cell phone was damaged. He was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Michael Sharadin.

Kelleher (age 24) of Mechanicville and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on Route 4 for speeding. Moshier (age 33) of Mechanicville and charged her with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor) and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on Rt. 67. She was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Michael Sharadin.

20150211_135057_resized (1)Halfmoon Man Pleads Guilty to Intentionally Injuring Roxy the Dog

Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced today that Scott M. Cusson, Jr. (dob 4/22/95) plead guilty in the Saratoga County Court to the charge of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, in violation of Agricultural and Markets Law Section 353-a(l), “Buster’s Law”, a class “E” felony, before Saratoga County Court Judge James A. Murphy, III. Cusson admitted that on February 9,2015, in the Town of Halfmoon, that “he intentionally caused serious physical injury to Roxy the dog”, with no justifiable purpose. Defendant Cusson acknowledged that he sprayed isopropyl alcohol on the dog and lit the alcohol, causing injuries to the dog’s face and ear.

   The injuries were discovered several days later when the dog was finally taken to a local vet. The vet assessed the injuries and contacted the New York State Police in Clifton Park, who conducted a thorough investigation and identified Cusson as the perpetrator of the injuries.

   DA Heggen stated that “this is a case of horrific injuries caused by the Defendant to an innocent animal. The photographs depict in ways words cannot describe the extent of the injuries suffered by Roxy the dog. My office was adamant that we would not plea bargain this case in any way. I am firm in my conviction to hold accountable people who harm innocent animals and I believe this cases provides justice today for Roxy”. Roxy was removed from the residence where this incident occurred and was subsequently forfeited by her owner and adopted locally by a loving and caring family.

   The defendant is expected to be sentenced to a term of state prison when he is sentenced on September 25,2015 at 9:00 am.

A Troy man is facing drug charges following a two month joint investigation by the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Albany, and Troy Police Department.

Theodore C. Leonil, 44, is being charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, one count of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and one count of fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

A search warrant was executed at 220 1st Street in the basement apartment in the City of Troy where investigators recovered 22.8 grams of heroin, 11.9 grams of crack cocaine, packaging materials, $3,670.00 of US Currency, and .45 caliber ammunition. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of approximately $7,500.

Leonil is currently being held in the Rensselaer County Jail without bail.

“The Sheriff’s Office will continue to partner with other agencies in an attempt to eradicate narcotic activity in Rensselaer County,” said Undersheriff Pat Russo.

There are no further details at this time.

Water and Sewer Rates Go Up in Village of Stillwater – by V. Albert

The Stillwater Village Board of Trustees held a public hearing at its regularly- scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 18 for the community to ask questions, and seek clarification on an upcoming increase in water and sewer rates.  On October 1, the water rate will be raised to $4.50 per 1,000 gallons for inside users and $6.38 per 1,000 gallons for outside users.  In addition, sewer rates will also increase to $4.50 per 1,000 gallons for residents of the Village.

Stillwater Police arrested Johnette E. Nelson (age 50) of Albany N.Y. and charged her with two counts of Forgery 2nd degree (Felony), Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree (misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3d degree (misdemeanor), Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor), Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Mandated Interlock Device (misdemeanor) and Operating without Insurance (infraction) following several incidents which occurred in Stillwater.

It was determined from an investigation that on April 28, 2015 the defendant was stopped by Stillwater Police for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration. She impersonated herself to police as being her sister to conceal a revoked driver’s license. The defendant subsequently appeared in Stillwater Town Court on 2 separate dates to answer the original charges and forged her signature on 2 official documents in an attempt to continue concealing her true identity.

The defendant was contacted by police and surrendered. She was arraigned in Stillwater Town Court and transported to Saratoga County Jail where she is being held without bail.
