Katelyn E. DiBenedetto Receives 2015 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

BATON ROUGE, LA (06/09/2015)(readMedia)-- Katelyn E. DiBenedetto of Clifton Park, N.Y., recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. DiBenedetto is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

DiBenedetto, a Ph.D. student in anthropology at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, plans to use funds from the award to alleviate travel costs to Cornell University to utilize their stable isotope laboratories.

Clifton Park Resident Rachel Harrison Returns from Zurich Following Intensive Research Project

The Mechanicville Stillwater Elks Lodge held its annual scholarship dinner to honor students from the three local school districts  Mechanicville, Stillwater, and Hoosic Valley. The program was a combined event to recognize the Elks Honor Students from the 2014-2015 school year and the awarding of the Elks Scholarship to one graduating senior from each school. The event was attended by the students, their families, school administrative and guidance staff, and Elks officers and members.

Kimberlee Kocienski of Schaghticoke, N.Y., Performs Well at NEICAAA All-New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships

WORCESTER, MA (05/13/2015)(readMedia)-- Kimberlee Kocienski earned NEICAAA All-New England honors and/or set a new school record this past weekend at MIT.

Laura Pumphrey claimed her second NEICAAA high jump crown with a personal-best height of 5-8.75 which is unofficially second on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships performance list.

Liz Pellegrini unofficially moved into a tie for 17th on the 100-meter hurdle list with an All-New England performance of 14.53. The fifth place time in the finals was her second PR of the weekend as she clocked a 14.66 to place seventh in the prelims. Pellegrini was .08 seconds shy of another All-New England effort with a ninth-place time of 1:03.45 in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 4x100-meter relay team also earned All-New England laurels as Maya Rhinehart, Pellegrini, Alex Price, and Sara Velleca finished eighth in a time of 48.25. Maggie LaRoche, Gina Capobianco, Emily Newman and Jessica Orr raced to a school record in the 4x800-meter relay (9:39.61) as did the foursome of Velleca, Rhinehart, Lea Strangio and Kimberlee Kocienski in the 4x400-meter relay (3:57.09).

For the men, Andrew Zayac came home fourth in the steeplechase in a school-record time of 9:15.39. The time is also unofficially 17th on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships performance list.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Lucas Roy, Ryan Moran, Austin Scott and Thomas Kostelak crossed the finish line in a school-record time of 7:45.11 while the 4x400-meter relay squad of Joey Collins, Ryan Dennis, Paul-Henry Schoenhagen and Warren Staver posted a seventh-place time of 3:18.30 to collect All-New England honors.

David Frederick, who finished fifth overall in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 15-05, was the top Division III finisher in the event.

 

Local Student Wins Award at Hamilton College Class & Charter Day

Clinton, N.Y. -- Mary C. D'Ambro, daughter of Darla and David D'Ambro of Schaghticoke, was named the recipient of The Nelson Clark Dale, Jr. Prize in Music at Hamilton College's annual Class & Charter Day, held on May 11.

HERKIMER, NY (05/12/2015)(readMedia)-- Herkimer County Community College announces candidates for the College's 47th annual commencement to be held Friday, May 15 at 5 pm in the Gymnasium of the Physical Education Building. There are 584 candidates for the associate degree and 52 candidates for certificates. There was a time when it was unheard of for students to refuse to take a school exam, but these days not only is it a possibility, the numbers are actually growing. Stillwater Elementary School principal John Powell says student percentage went up significantly for the district just from this past year.

Kimberlee Kocienski of Schaghticoke, N.Y., Earns NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Laurels

WORCESTER, MA (04/28/2015)(readMedia)-- Kimberlee Kocienski was one of 54 WPI spring student-athletes across five varsity sports to garner NEWMAC Academic All-Conference status, as recently announced.

Of the five teams announced, WPI saw three teams reach double digit recipients, with men's track and field leading the way with 20 honorees. Next was baseball and women's rowing with ten apiece, followed by women's track and field with nine and rounding out the selections was softball with five.

Local Students Inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Academic Honor Society at Hudson Valley Community College

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is indicative of academic excellence. Those inducted are matriculated students who have met standards including a grade point average of 3.71 or higher. The college's Alpha Xi Sigma chapter recognizes and promotes scholarship, develops leadership, encourages service and cultivates fellowship among qualified students of the college.

Local Students Honored for Academic Achievement at The College of Saint Rose

ALBANY, NY (04/27/2015)(readMedia)-- The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, announced that 107 students were honored for outstanding academic achievement at the Honors Convocation held recently on the Saint Rose campus.

These local students received the following awards:

Marlene Eckert of Clifton Park, a junior, received the Mary P. Vanderzee Memorial Award. This award is presented to a sophomore or junior in any degree program who is registered with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. A minimum 3.0 grade-point average is required, and applicants must complete an application, which includes a 200-300 word essay.

Deanna Osborn of Clifton Park, a senior, Outstanding Senior in Special Education - Childhood Education Award and the Saint Rose of Lima Award Four-Year Student - Bachelor's Program. Outstanding Senior Awards are presented to graduating seniors who have at least a 3.50 grade-point average and who meet other criteria specified by the departments in which they study. The Saint Rose of Lima Award is presented to two graduating seniors who have maintained the highest cumulative average during their entire course of study at the College. One award is presented to a four-year student; the second award is presented to a transfer student.
