SUNY Potsdam Student Michael Janucik of Clifton Park, NY Completes Summer Study Abroad Program

POTSDAM, NY (10/24/2014)(readMedia)-- Thirty-one SUNY Potsdam students recently completed study abroad programs across the globe, both in short-term service journeys and in summer-long experiences.

The students included Michael Janucik from Clifton Park, NY, who completed student teaching in Australia over the summer.

SUNY Potsdam Awards Scholarships to Area Undergraduate and Graduate Students

POTSDAM, NY (10/21/2014)(readMedia)-- The State University of New York at Potsdam has awarded scholarships, grants and awards to 998 students for the 2014-15 academic year. These accomplished SUNY Potsdam undergraduate and graduate students were recognized for their achievements with support for their educational experience.

This year's recipients included:

  • Molly Bonnier of Melrose, NY, whose major is Dance. Bonnier was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Kirsten Carlo of Valley Falls, NY, whose major is Art Studio. Carlo was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Kayla Fraser of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Fraser was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Taylor Hughes of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Biochemistry (Bachelor of Science). Hughes was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Alexandria Kosek of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Kosek was awarded the Paul E. Hunt '50 Crane School of Music Recruitment Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Robert Krupanich of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Krupanich was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Transfer Scholarship.
  • Amy Lynch of Schaghticoke, NY, whose major is Psychology. Lynch was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Madison Mahar of Mechanicville, NY, whose major is Biology (Bachelor of Science). Mahar was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • John Marshall of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Marshall was awarded the Mary Repazy Kuracina Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Amna Siddiqui of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Politics. Siddiqui was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Marissa Skaczkowski of Mechanicville, NY, whose major is Art Studio. Skaczkowski was awarded the Lucy Dai Scholarship, the Rebecca R. Pratt Arts and Sciences Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Stephen Whimple of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Performance. Whimple was awarded the Frackenpohl Honors Brass Quintet Award.

Melrose Woman Inspires Others Through Her Strides Towards a Cure – By C. Barton

Karen Horton, a Melrose resident was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2002. She found herself being faced with having to find the words to tell her family about her diagnosis. 12 years later Horton is a breast cancer survivor, just as her grandmother and aunt were before her and her cousin after her. She tells her personal story keep other people informed and aware. “I have set my goal this year and every year forward to continue to be a Pacesetter until this disease has been eradicated,” says Horton. Her diagnosis is what prompted her involvement with the American Cancer Society and her work making strides against breast cancer.

Marcel Garbos Makes the Spring 2014 Dean's List at Bard College at Simon's Rock

To be eligible for this honor a student must carry 14 or more credits and achieve a grade point average of 3.5.

Garbos attended Shenendehowa High School East before leaving after 10th grade to start college early.

University of Rhode Island names more than 4,000 students to the Spring 2014 Dean's List

KINGSTON, RI (08/11/2014)(readMedia)-- The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that more than 4,000 undergraduates have qualified for the Spring 2014 Dean's List. The students represent all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, many other states and more than a dozen countries. More than half of the students are Rhode Islanders.

To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 credits with a 3.30 quality point average.

Margaret Sanderson earns Spring Academic Honors from SUNYAC

ONEONTA, NY (08/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Margaret Sanderson, of Schaghticoke, NY, was one of 50 SUNY Oneonta student-athletes named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List for the Spring 2014 season.

To qualify for the All-Academic Team, a student must be varsity athlete who has completed the entire season and earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 for the semester in which they competed. In addition, to be named to the Commissioner's List, the student athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 based on three semesters at the institution. (Does not have to be consecutive semesters). Sanderson, who is majoring in Elementary Ed., was a member of the Track & Field team.
