Spa Raceway Presents Grants – By H. Wessell
BALLSTON SPA, November 18 -'96 Saratoga County Supervisors presented twenty-six area nonprofit organizations with this year's grants issued\by the Saratoga Raceway and Casino Foundation.
Directors of the Foundation presenting the awards were its president,Supervisor Mathew Veitch; and board members; the facility's director "Skip" Carlson, Saratoga Springs mayor Joanne Yepsen, Thomas McTygue; and Malta Supervisor Paul Sausville. Sausville remarked that they had review some fifty applications for help from nonprofit foundations this year, but were able to provide for twenty six. The awards total $28.050.

Mayor Sylvester Reflects on eight Years – by Harold Wessell
How Anthony Sylvester came to be mayor of Mechanicville for the past 8 years is a long story.
It came about, as he related soon after his last City Council meeting on December 18, because he has been involved in volunteerism for some 30 years: He served as chairman of the Family Day committee, and the city housing authority. After the tornado he took a couple weeks off from his job and helped pick up debris on the streets; and organized dinners and brought food, also clothing, to different places ñ and was named the Chamber of Commere's Man of the Year.

Stillwater/Halfmoon Receive Grants – by Harold Wessell
BALLSTON SPA, December 11 – On the day of their monthly Agenda Meeting, Saratoga County supervisors learned that, after two previous attempts, Saratoga County communities or organizations garnered some share of the Governor's statewide economic development grant competition.
Receiving awards were several of the County's communities received awards.
– Saratoga Rowing Association, Inc, with the help of a $42,000 grant, aims to position Saratoga as a destination of choice for elite regattas and training, by expansion of its capital infrastructure, and improvement of race course equipment. A building for regatta planning and execution, and athlete training will be provided by renovating a neglected building located in the Town of Saratoga, NY, across Fish Creek from its main boathouse.
