Adirondack Save-A-Stray Pets for Adoption

Swamp Puppies- There was a mama dog that was found in the swamp by some people when they were fishing. They found her pups hidden underneath the wet brush. These people knew that this was no place to raise a litter of pups and they rushed this family to safety.
Bartleby 01Bartleby - This handsome boy was an owner surrender to a high kill shelter in Georgia. 4-5 months old and weighs 25 lbs. He gets along with cats, children, dogs, and humans. He is house trained. Sweet puppy that knows how to sit and walk on a leash.
Pumpkin 01Pumpkin - Another day and another story. Pumpkin "supposedly" was abandoned at an apartment complex by his former owner. However, when the woman showed up to drop him in the door we were a little suspicious. When we turned around to have her fill out the paperwork (which is required) she threw the cat in the doorway and peeled out of the parking lot. This is stressful for us to say the least because we like to have a history and some information about the kitty and the circumstance in case an owner might step forward. However, if you recognize this cat then please step forward or if you can give this wonderful/confused purrbucket a home then please contact us at (518) 654-6220. Pumpkin awaits you.

Hi my name is Scooby. I'm a 2-1/2 year old, purebred Golden Retriever. I'm neutered (ouch!), up to date on vaccines, tested negative for heartworm and lyme and microchipped. I was surrendered from my previous home because I didn't like the other dogs going near my food dish and bones. I need to go to a home where I am the ONLY dog, please! In my former home I lived with cats and kids and my foster family has cats and kids too (the kids are all over 10 and I really LOVE them). I'm OK with the kitties, but they need to stay out of my food bowl and away from my bones (but, if you have kitties for me to live with, I'd be OK with giving up bones).

I LOVE people - I LOVE attention - I LOVE to play! I'm a great dog!

Scooby is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped.

Scout is an ~ 4 year old Golden Retriever who is a a really nice dog. Scout who needs a special family - please read all about him!
Scout is a lone wolf - he needs to be the only four-legged child in the home (no cats or other dogs). If you have kids (the two-legged variety), he's great with them. His foster mom says he's great with her kids (all age 10 and over). A fenced yard is a must - Scout can't be out loose as he doesn't like other dogs. So if you have little ones who may let him out, he's probably not the dog for you. Please read on.........
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, please don't give up on him! Scout is a really a loving dog - LOVES people and LOVES playing football - and will toss the ball back and forth to you. Swimming? YAY! Playing drop the football in the pool and swimming combined is the best! Scout will be a super companion in the right home!

Scout is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped.

Hi I'm Bernie and I'm 15 weeks old! I'm a lap kitty - I just love being on and near my foster people....do you need a sweet little soft fur ball curled up on your knee? - then pick me!! I love to snuggle and I especially like to get my belly rubbed. I love the company of people - while never underfoot I always like to be close no matter what you are up to - cooking in the kitchen, watching TV, brushing teeth....I'll be hanging about just to be near you. When its dinner time I come running for my kibbles - can't miss a meal, and with all my playing got to keep the energy up!

Crowley is an absolutely gorgeous green eyed 1-year-old boy that was rescued as a kitten from a woodpile and a life of fending for himself outdoors. Crowley is very affectionate and loves attention but has not been adopted yet because he is a "scaredy-cat" ...waiting for a family patient enough to give him the time he needs to trust. He's great with his foster family and with many others that have taken the time to get to know him. Once Crowley gets to know you he's a really amazing guy that will be so grateful to have a forever home. Crowley is great with other cats and dogs. Are you willing to give this regal boy a chance?

Crowley is neutered, up to date on his shots and negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.

Heather's puppies - These little cuties are Min pin and Dachshund mixes. They are not going to be very big. They were brought into rescue by their mothers owner because he wanted them safe. Mommy(tiger) & Buddy(Bl & Wht) -This is one of those stories as to why we get angry. This woman moved September 1st and threw her cats out after raising them since they were kittens. We only got 2 and kind of demanded her to go back and find the third. We are updating them on vaccines, flea control, and rabies, but the thought of them having a home one day and not the next makes us cringe. We do not understand, but no matter they are safe now. We are getting overloaded again in our cat room so if someone is looking to adopt a new kitty then please consider coming to ASAS shelter. We want to get our numbers down so ALL OF OUR OLDER CATS ARE JUST A DONATION APPRECIATED. The phone calls will not stop with the oncoming cold weather and we need to make room. Please consider giving them a purrfect home.

The cat thing was a typo on our part. I just snatched the picture and text off of our Facebook page and did not read it first. My bad. I am so sorry if it created a problem for you.
Min Pin mix puppies - How cute are these little guys? They were an owner turn in to a very high kill shelter. They have all been vet checked, wormed and given shots. They have wonderful little personalities.
One of these babies would be perfect if you don't want a larger dog. For more information on these puppies please call the shelter at 518-654-6220.
Kirby Chihuahua mixes m- First pic is the girl. Second pic is the special needs boy. He's deaf and born with minor neurological problems and so will be adopted out as a special needs puppy. Who Was Mrs. Cats? – by S. McBride

On a cold December night in 1906, when the Champlain Canal still bisected the village of Mechanicville, a 61-year-old woman living alone in a second-floor apartment on Canal Street heard a cry for help.  Going out onto her porch overhanging the not-yet-frozen waterway, she saw a man floundering in the stagnant water.  She leaped over the railing into the canal below and swam to the man’s side.  Her cries for help, along with his, did bring help and the man’s life was saved.
