Roosevelt Returns: October 1940 – by P. Loatman

Tuesday, October 7, marked the seventy-fourth anniversary of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s second and final trip to the Mechanicville area. Things had changed dramatically since his initial trip here on October 17, 1929. Then, the newly-elected Governor was pre-occupied helping Mechanicville Mayor George O. Slingerland organize ceremonies marking the transfer of Saratoga battlefield properties to the State. Yet, a few days later, the New York Stock Market crashed, ultimately plunging the nation into the Depression and thrusting the young Empire State governor into the White House where he would spend the rest of his career confronting both domestic economic devastation and the rise of fascist dictatorships abroad.

Hi my name is Scooby. I'm a 2-1/2 year old, purebred Golden Retriever. I'm neutered (ouch!), up to date on vaccines, tested negative for heartworm and lyme and microchipped. I was surrendered from my previous home because I didn't like the other dogs going near my food dish and bones. I need to go to a home where I am the ONLY dog, please! In my former home I lived with cats and kids and my foster family has cats and kids too (the kids are all over 10 and I really LOVE them). I'm OK with the kitties, but they need to stay out of my food bowl and away from my bones (but, if you have kitties for me to live with, I'd be OK with giving up bones).

I LOVE people - I LOVE attention - I LOVE to play! I'm a great dog!

Scooby is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped.

Scout is an ~ 4 year old Golden Retriever who is a a really nice dog. Scout who needs a special family - please read all about him!
Scout is a lone wolf - he needs to be the only four-legged child in the home (no cats or other dogs). If you have kids (the two-legged variety), he's great with them. His foster mom says he's great with her kids (all age 10 and over). A fenced yard is a must - Scout can't be out loose as he doesn't like other dogs. So if you have little ones who may let him out, he's probably not the dog for you. Please read on.........
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, please don't give up on him! Scout is a really a loving dog - LOVES people and LOVES playing football - and will toss the ball back and forth to you. Swimming? YAY! Playing drop the football in the pool and swimming combined is the best! Scout will be a super companion in the right home!

Scout is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped.

Hi I'm Bernie and I'm 15 weeks old! I'm a lap kitty - I just love being on and near my foster people....do you need a sweet little soft fur ball curled up on your knee? - then pick me!! I love to snuggle and I especially like to get my belly rubbed. I love the company of people - while never underfoot I always like to be close no matter what you are up to - cooking in the kitchen, watching TV, brushing teeth....I'll be hanging about just to be near you. When its dinner time I come running for my kibbles - can't miss a meal, and with all my playing got to keep the energy up!

Bernie is neutered, up to date on his shots and negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.

Mechanicville, NY September 26, 2014…National news stories appear about the explosion of domestic violence. From professional athletes, to local offenders, domestic violence affects men, women, and children on a daily basis. Whether or not it’s referred to as battering, family abuse, or intimate partner violence, domestic violence is a physical, emotional and/or psychological behavior that one person uses to gain power and control over another in a relationship.  In Mechanicville alone, a small city of one square mile, there was a 32% increase in domestic incident reports filed by police officers in 2012.  Throughout the country, there are millions of stories about the abuse of real people.
