January 1st Not Always New Years Holiday – by H. Wessell

This Thursday January 1,  millions of Americans mark a holiday that has become virtually worldwide over a long road covering more than two thousand years, but made stops at several other dates along the way.

Observance of New Year’s Day as a national holiday on that  date  – in America and other societies, mostly celebrated the night before – now marches from timezone to timezone around the globe.

The celebration of the new year on this date developed over many centuries, indeed from several centuries BC/ BCE; but it became virtually worldwide  by the late 16th century, mainly as the Gregorian Calendar superseded the Julian Calendar in most parts of the world, with a few more countries adopting it even as late as 1941.

Corrine

This sweet, very unique, female ginger tabby has her eye on you...she's shy but always looking for someone to pet her. Corrine is a really lovely kitty that needs a special family with the patience to let her get to know them. Once you earn her trust you will have a steady bedtime companion and will know just how much she loves to be petted when she arches up to you and flicks her tail. Corinne was abandoned with her siblings and had to fend for herself with her 4 brothers before she was rescued by HOPE. If you are looking for a cat that really needs saving and that rewarding feeling of gaining the trust of an animal that's not always had the best experiences with people then consider Corinne. She's come a long way, is loving and sweet with her foster family who she's been with many months, and is ready to meet her new forever family. Do you have a big enough heart to welcome in Corinne? We promise she's worth it if you just have a little patience. Corinne has a few favorite housemates - Crowley, Ace & Abbie, she gets along with all the other cats and also is fine with dogs.
