Dairy Farming 2015 – by Sandy McBride

My husband Tom was born and raised on a dairy farm.  By the time he was twelve years old, he was milking cows twice a day, before school and after school, 365 days a year.  We got married in 1961 and had a one-day honeymoon, leaving his brother to handle the farm till we got back the next day.  We raised our six kids on the farm, with life geared to being home every day at milking time.  No vacations, just day trips. But it was a good life, and we accepted the sacrifice.  The kids grew up to be responsible, hard-working adults, which we attributed to their days working alongside us on the farm.

Rudy Helmo: Expressionist Artist – by C. Kelly

Due to my travels and circumstances beyond my control, I am very late recommending that you see a very interesting exhibit of paintings at the Rensselaer County Historical Society, 57 2nd Street in Troy, open from Thursday-Saturday from noon to 5. This exhibit of paintings by Rudy Helmo only runs until the end of August. But the society also has a great exhibit of landscape views of Rensselaer County, which will be on view until the end of the year, so your trip in September would still be worthwhile!
