2015 Thanksgiving Food Drive

MECHANICVILLE NOVEMBER 20- There were no cars in the showroom at Toyota of Clifton Park . It was filled with boxes and cans of for, and turkeys. Enough food and turkeys to feed 825 families. Michael Raucci, the General Manager of Toyota of Clifton Park and the man behind the Thanksgiving Food Drive, pointed out that families in Mechanicville, Stillwater, Halfmoon, Clifton Park, and Waterford will have turkey dinners thanks to the generosity of the community.

The horror that has transpired in France at this season of the year when our thoughts have turned to celebrating Thanksgiving, to time-honored traditions and happy gatherings of family and friends, reminds us of how tenuous peace is, of how tenuous life is.  So it is that once again, in 2015, we will experience a holiday tempered with sadness, with concerns and fears not only for our own future, but for the very future of the world.

Stillwater Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees – by Ian Lewis

Induction will happen on Wednesday, December 30. Boys basketball will be hosting the second night of their tournament that night. Inductees will be honored at half time of the Stillwater game, which starts at 7 against Schuylerville. Immediately following the the game, the new members will be honored and speak in the new cafeteria. The public is welcome to attend this event.

New Saratoga Battlefield Quarter Unveiled – by V. Gallagher

SCHUYLERVILLE NOVEMBER  Hundreds gathered\'a0 together at the Schuylerville High School auditorium on Tuesday\'a0 to witness the unveiling of the new Saratoga National Historical Park quarter. Barbara Fox, who worked with the Artistic Infusion program in conjunction with the U.S Mint, was chosen as the official artist.

Jacob O’Shea OF Rexford NLEFCF Scholarship Recipient

REXFORD -  The National Law Enforcement & Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) today announced Jacob O’Shea, of Rexford, NY, as a recipient of the NLEAFCF Scholarship. Jacob received the scholarship in recognition of his exceptional leadership, community service and scholastic achievement.

Jacob was one of 25 students from across the country to receive the award, which is based on academic merit and financial need. The recipients are all children of a law enforcement officer or firefighter who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.

 

Elias M. “Lydie” Carey – 68

MECHANICVILLE – Elias M. “Lydie” Carey, 68, of Broadway, died Thursday, Nov. 19th, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy, in the loving company of his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at NOON at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Burial with Military and Police honors follow at Saratoga NationalCemetery.

Calling hours at the North Main Street Church on Sunday from 2-5 PM.

SCHAGHTICOKE - Brian Stephen Daigle, Sr. of Buttermilk Falls Road passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. He was 61.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8:00pm on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Tuesday, November 24 at Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 Route 67, Schaghticoke. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Mechanicville.
