The Pentagon has chosen GlobalFoundries to supply the most advanced microchips used in U.S. spy satellites, missiles and combat jets. The agreement is an example of the Pentagon’s effort to protect military systems from cyberattacks and other tampering.
“This new contract is great news for GlobalFoundries and it’s employees in the Northeast Tech Corridor,” said corporate communications manager Steven Grasso. ”It builds on our investments to keep the EFK and BTV sites competitive.”
IBM had been the supplier of the chips to the Pentagon for over a decade, then decided to pay Globalfoundries to take over.
