Mechanicville: 1947 – by S. McBride

The 1947 Hudson Valley Firemen’s Association Convention booklet in which I found the tributes to the firemen of our community who died serving our nation in World War II (The Express- April 8) provides us with a vivid perception of Mechanicville as it was in postwar days.

A global war with profound consequences for all mankind had ended just two years earlier. All over the world, soldiers had resumed their lives as citizens while cities, towns and industries were being rebuilt. This Week in The Civil War – A Single Shot – by S. McBride

A nation breathing a collective sigh of relief after a long and bloody civil war.  A packed theater.  A celebratory crowd. Tony Luciano turns 90 – by S. McBride

Proudly saying that he is the oldest and the longest-tenured former government official in the City of Mechanicville, Anthony “Tony” Luciano showed off an array of memorabilia from his years of service to his hometown.  Tony celebrated his 90th birthday on February 28 with a relatively quiet gathering of his multi-generational family.  It was a joyful occasion tempered with deep sadness, as his wife of 66 years, Florence, passed away on January 17.
