Truck Detour Begins Monday, April 14 N. Troy/Waterford Bridge

WATERFORD - Motorists are advised that a truck detour will be in place beginning Monday, April 14, to allow for maintenance painting of the 126th Street Bridge carrying Route 4 over the Hudson River between North Troy/Lansingburgh and Waterford.

The truck detour will not apply to vehicles less than 9 feet, 6 inches wide and shorter than 12 feet in height. This includes all school buses.

Truckers can use the 112th Street Bridge, which carries Route 470 over the Hudson River, as an alternate route. The truck detour will be in place around the clock, and is expected to end on July 31.

Additionally, the bridge will be reduced to one alternating lane of traffic, controlled by flaggers, during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., until early May.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license. It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through this construction zone, for their own safety and the safety of workers.

Bentley is a 3-year old neutered male Pomeranian, who is up to date on his shots and micro-chipped. He likes to ride in the car and is good with older children, dogs, and cats. He is house trained and crate trained. Bentley is like a fluffy teddy bear! He loves to be cuddled and he cuddles back quite willingly. He loves to play with balls and toys. When he gets excited he lays down on the floor throwing his head around in the cutest antics. Bentley walks well on a leash and understands the heal command. He also knows the sit and stay commands, and he will also stop barking on command. Due to Bentley's love of running, it would be best if his forever home have a fenced yard and be in a low traffic area.

MACSC Continues Food Drive Challenge

MECHANICVILLE - MACSC (Mechanicville Area Community Service Center) has now passed the halfway mark to raise funds for fighting hunger. It has accepted the March-April 'Feinstein Challenge'   which will end on April 30, 2014.  The A.S. Feinstein Foundation is making $1,000,000 available. This amount will be awarded proportionately to not-for-profit agencies, which increase donations for fighting food hunger. Donations include:  food, checks, cash and pledges. If MACSC's donations show an increase our food pantry could receive an award up to $35,000.  Today, there is a growing food crisis going on in many parts of our country. And the Mechanicville area is no different.  Many people are on limited income and are at risk of going hungry.  This may be because of job loss, working fewer hours, medical expense; rental hikes, heating costs and other vital expenses.  We also have a large number of residents who were regular donors to our food pantry and now need help. If you plan to donate to this drive, which is honoring Margaret Mehan, you should DO IT NOW. Checks should be made payable to: MACSC and mailed to: Holly LaTorre, MACSC. 6 South Main St, P.O. Box 30, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Your donation offers a double benefit. It will help keep Margaret Mehan's giving spirit alive as well as helping to fight hunger in the Mechanicville area.
