AUGUST 13- The Town of Halfmoon is known for its population growth as a bedroom community. Manufacturing is part of the town's economic base. Congressman Paul Tonko toured some of these businesses on Rt.32. Pete Bardunias, President of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, helped to organize the tour.

New Playground in Stillwater – by V. Gallagher

STILLWATER - The Village of Stillwater has begun the first phase of renovations on a new playground at Major Dickinson Avenue. The village obtained a $50,000 park and recreations state grant with the help of Senator Kathleen Marchione to give the area a complete overhaul and new look. Former village mayor Ernie Martin, who originally pushed for the grant, is happy to see this all starting to come together.

STILLWATER – Kimberly A. Rivers, 46, died late Friday evening at SaratogaHospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness.  She was the daughter of the late Ronald C. and Sharon King Keefer.

Area students earn Deans' Awards at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/12/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Oswego has made Deans' Awards to a select group of students who are starting at the college in fall 2015.

The scholarships are $6,000 over four years. For non-New York state students, the total award can increase to as much as $38,000 in combination with a Destination Oswego scholarship.

Adam Knapp of Nadeau Road in Clifton Park, a freshman majoring in adolescence education who last studied at Shenendehowa High School.

Kassadee C. Paulo of Russell Drive in Stillwater, a freshman majoring in journalism who last studied at Stillwater Central School.

Area SUNY Potsdam Students Complete Spring 2015 Internships

POTSDAM, NY (08/12/2015)(readMedia)-- Nearly 250 SUNY Potsdam students completed internship placements at companies, non-profits or campus departments in Spring 2015.

SUNY Potsdam's internship program places students with employers whose interests align with their studies. Each student intern has a faculty sponsor, and earns between 1 and 12 credits toward their degree requirements.

Last semester's successful student interns included:

  • Margaret Dollard from Melrose, NY, who interned with the SUNY Potsdam Department of Modern Languages in Potsdam, NY
  • Geoffrey Lyman from Stillwater, NY, who interned with the Adirondack Mountain Club's ADK Loj in Lake Placid, NY
  • Amy Lynch from Schaghticoke, NY, who interned with St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House in Canton, NY

Doris A. Tucillo – 97

MECHANICVILLE – Doris A. Tuccillo, 97, of Davenport Estates, died Sunday, August 9th at Wesley Health Care Center, following a brief illness. Born in Green Island, she was the daughter of the late Melville and Myrtle Powley.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10AM at the Mechanicville United Methodist Church, 7 North Main Street, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with burial to follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Contributions may be made to Mechanicville United Methodist Church in loving memory of Doris A. Tuccillo.

Dominick J. Alonzo - 67

MECHANICVILLE - Dominick J. Alonzo, 67, former native of this city and the Capital District, died peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Gentiva Hospice, Palm Desert, CA, after a brief illness. Born in Troy, NY, on June 28, 1948, son of Dominick Dan (Midge) Alonzo of Clifton Park and the late Dolores Vitrella Alonzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1PM on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park, followed by interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Mechanicville. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 15th from 11 AM to 1 PM at St. Edward’s Church, preceding the Mass of Christian Burial.

Kent (age 31) of Ballston Lake and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on Whitney Road. He was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Tom Sawyer.

Stillwater Police arrested Erin E. Oneal (age 29) of Rensselaer and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on County Route 76 for speeding. She was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Charles Rockwell.

MacDonald (age 46) of Mechanicville and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree (misdemeanor), Operating with a Suspended Registration (misdemeanor), Operating without Insurance (infraction) following a vehicle stop on Route 67. She was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Alex Dunn.

Stillwater Police arrested Michelle Sutton (age 45) of Stillwater and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree (misdemeanor) following a vehicle stop on Lake Road. She was processed and released to appear in Stillwater Town Court. The arrest was handled by Ptl. Sean Lyons.

Waterford Police Arrest - Barton

On Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at about 11:00 PM PO M. Dilbone observed a vehicle traveling at 67 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Upon stopping the vehicle and through investigation it was found that the operator, William E. Barton, 34, of 406 Loudon Rd., Saratoga Springs had been drinking and was arrested. The defendant refused to submit to a chemical breath test. The defendant was charged with the following:

Consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle

Driving while intoxicated

Reckless driving

Speed in zone

The defendant was arraigned in Waterford Justice Court by Justice N. Sunukjian and was turned over to the Saratoga Springs Police on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court.
