Hoosac Tunnel & RR – by C. Kelly
This fall my husband and I had a wonderful train trip through the town of Schaghticoke. Every year Amtrak runs a fall excursion train one weekend. Train buffs from all over the country ride. This year the trip was from Albany to East Deerfield, Massachusetts…..with the centerpiece of the 10 hour day a journey through the 4.75 mile long Hoosac Tunnel. This was the first time a passenger train had been through the tunnel in at least thirty years. Yes, that was great, but for me as town historian, a trip by train through my town was the high point- twice, actually, as we retraced our journey on the way back.

During their journey they will enjoy pizza, hot chocolate, craft, and a viewing of The Polar Express! All children grades K-5 are welcome! SCHAGHTICOKE - Victor Lodge of Schaghticoke Route 67 in Schaghticoke. The menu will be pancakes, Belgian waffles, Knickerbocker soufflé, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes with and without onions, juice and coffee. Children are free and Santa Claus will be at the breakfast.
NYSEG Opens CNG Facility on Central Ave.
MECHANICVILLE DECEMBER 9- The new compressed natural gas facility on Central Ave. was open to star and local officials on Wednesday morning. This is the only utility owned facility of its kind in New York State. NYSEG now delivers compressed natural gas by truck and it is injected into the local delivery system. By increasing capacity the three moratorium on providing natural gas to Mechanicville, Halfmoon, and Stillwater is now lifted.
Banzai Literacy Program at MHS – by Sandy McBride
High school education prepares students for college and for the job market. The curriculum offers courses in the sciences, language arts, foreign languages, physical education, math and music, providing them with the skills necessary to pass college courses. Programs offered through BOCES teaches them such job skills as machine technology, cosmetology, auto repair and culinary arts among others. There are all kinds of learning tools available in our schools for young people who will soon embark on that often intimidating journey called life in the real world

Toys for Tots Convoy Attains Record Breaking Success
BALLSTON SPA: The 2nd annual Convoy Toys for Tots benefiting the Capital Region Toys for Tots was held on Sunday November 29th. Over 150 vehicles from area Police, Fire Department, EMS agencies, public and private businesses came together to support Capitol Region Toys for Tots.
VFW Post 1498 Provides Coats
ALBANY DECEMBER 11- On Friday morning members of Clifton Park -Halfmoon VFW Post #1498 traveled to Stratton VA Hospital to deliver 100 winter coats, 50 flannel shirts, and 50 fleece lined shirts. These came courtesy of the Haband Corp. and President John DeFrancesco who is a friend of one of the members of Post 1498.

With\'a0Computer Science Education Week (December 7-13) in mind, 60 students and parents returned to Stillwater Elementary School on the evening of December 8th to participate in "The Hour of Code".
