Katelyn E. DiBenedetto Receives 2015 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

BATON ROUGE, LA (06/09/2015)(readMedia)-- Katelyn E. DiBenedetto of Clifton Park, N.Y., recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. DiBenedetto is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

DiBenedetto, a Ph.D. student in anthropology at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, plans to use funds from the award to alleviate travel costs to Cornell University to utilize their stable isotope laboratories.

Clifton Park Resident Rachel Harrison Returns from Zurich Following Intensive Research Project

Schaticoke Residents Express Concerns Over EMS – by C. Barton

An active public hearing took place in the Town of Schaghticoke on May 28th 2015 at 6:35pm. The public hearing was set for the purposes of “hearing all persons interested regarding the proposed contract with the Clifton Park and Halfmoon Emergency Corps.” This proposed contract would assign the Clifton Park and Halfmoon Emergency Corps as the contracted Emergency Medical Service that will provide emergency response to the Hemstreet Park fire district.” The John Ahearn Rescue Squad, which is no longer in operation, formerly served this district. For approximately a year the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad has been responding to the area previously covered by John Ahern.

Academic Departments at Hudson Valley Community College Honor Top Students
Students Graduate from St. Lawrence University

CANTON, NY (05/28/2015)(readMedia)-- The following students received bachelor degrees from St. Lawrence University during commencement ceremonies held on May 17 in Canton, New York.

Henry L. Heed of Clifton Park. Heed received the degree of bachelor of arts. Heed is a member of the Class of 2015 and majored in English. Heed graduated from Shenendehowa High School.

Alaina E. Larkin of Clifton Park. Larkin received the degree of bachelor of science Magna cum laude. Larkin is a member of the Class of 2015 and majored in international economics-multilanguage and mathematics. Larkin graduated from Shenendehowa High School.

Four honorary degree recipients spoke during St. Lawrence University's Commencement, including award-winning songwriter Judy Hart Angelo, hedge fund pioneer John M. Angelo, chair of the Baseball Hall of Fame Jane Clark, and garden historian Peter Hatch.

Matthew Roy of Waterford, was given the Kintz Plastics Award, which is given to the graduating Manufacturing Technical Systems student who has the highest grade point average. The award is handed out by the Automotive, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering academic program.

Melanie Chapman of Clifton Park, was given the Academic Excellence in Anatomy and Physiology Award, which is given to a student who has shown particularly high achievement in the study of anatomy and physiology. The award is handed out by the Biology, Chemistry and Physics academic program.

Amanda Frodey of Stillwater, was given the Academic Excellence in Anatomy and Physiology Award, which is given to a student who has shown particularly high achievement in the study of anatomy and physiology. The award is handed out by the Biology, Chemistry and Physics academic program.

Jason Zeledon of Clifton Park, was given the Stephen L. Hyatt Award, which is given to the graduating students who have the highest academic average in sciences over their first three semesters of a degree program at Hudson Valley Community College. The award is handed out by the Biology, Chemistry and Physics academic program.

Kevin Pallozzi of Schaghticoke, was given the Eastman Kodak Engineering Award, which is given to a student studying in the area of civil, mechanical or industrial technology who exhibits outstanding academic achievement and is transferring or continuing his/her education. The award is handed out by the Civil, Construction, Industrial and Mechanical Technologies academic program.

Jessica Noeth of Waterford, was given the Forensic Science Award, which is given to the most outstanding graduate of the Forensic Science Studies graduating class. The award is handed out by the Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Public Administration Studies academic program.

Jennifer Hoech of Clifton Park, was given the Proctor & Gamble Award for Excellence in Preventive Dentistry, which is awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding achievement in the behavioral aspects of patient-centered care. The award is handed out by the Dental Hygiene academic program.

Arati Singh of Clifton Park, was given the Troy Dental Society Club Scholarship, which is given to a resident of the greater Capital Region who showed academic excellence in the Dental Hygiene program. The award is handed out by the Dental Hygiene academic program.

Alexander Wollyung of Clifton Park, was given the English Department Four L Award: Celebrating Language, Literature, Learning and Laughter, which is presented to a graduating senior in a Liberal Arts or Individual Studies program who has excelled in English. The award is handed out by the English, Foreign Languages and English As A Second Language academic program.

Kaylie Willsey of Valley Falls, was given the Award for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Service in the Broadcast Communications Program, which is given to the most accomplished student in the Broadcast Communications graduating class. The cash prize is made possible through a generous donation by the New School, Hudson Valley's partner in the delivery of the Broadcast Communications degree program. The award is handed out by the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications academic program.

SELINSGROVE, PA (06/01/2015)(readMedia)-- Parker Adel, of Clifton Park, received the Outstanding Senior Musician Award at Susquehanna University's annual student awards luncheon, held each May in the days leading up to commencement.

This award is given to a senior who represents the finest in music performance.

Local Students Inducted into Tau Alpha Pi Academic Honor Society at Hudson Valley Community College

TROY, NY (05/20/2015)(readMedia)-- Eighteen high-achieving students were recently inducted into the Tau Alpha Pi academic honor society at Hudson Valley Community College.

To gain entrance into the honor society, students are required to rank among the top four percent of an institution's total engineering technology enrollment.

Tau Alpha Pi is a national organization with affiliate chapters located on the campuses of many of the country's leading technical colleges and universities. Both associate and baccalaureate degree students are eligible.
