H.O.P.E. Pets for Adoption
Henry is a distinguished 10-year old neutered male Schnauzer/Lab mix. This handsome fellow is up to date on his shots and micro-chipped. Henry has spent his life with an elderly couple and their cat. He's doing well in his foster home and is very loving. Henry gets along well with their dog, is housebroken, and seems to prefer women.
Brady is an active 3-year old neutered male Border Collie/Lab mix, who is up to date on his shots and micro-chipped. He's a very loving and loyal dog who needs room to run. Brady is house trained and if you place a small bell on the door, he will ring it when he needs to go out! He is good with kids and dogs and is crate trained.
Gabby is an 8-month old, black and white female kitten with beautiful golden eyes! She's a sweet, independent, calm little lady. Gabby enjoys hiding in boxes, surprising her friends as they walk by and having you throw a ball that she can chase. At night she insists on snuggling right up next to you and you will wake up having her stare at you until you get up and give her a treat. Gabby gets along with other cats and still plays with her dog friends. Gabby is spayed and up to date on her shots.
Joanne is a spunky, lively two-year old cat. She is one of the cats that rules the roost. Joanne must know what is going on in her home at all times. She loves to snuggle and play with her owners. Halfmoon Historical Society Receives Charter – by Michael Bielwski
Halfmoon – This past Jan 13 the Halfmoon Planning Board meeting was packed with residents to take part in the meeting to consider the town’s latest development project. The project under discussion was Princeton Heights, a major residential subdivision planned for off of Princeton Avenue and Manchester Drive. Princeton Heights has been in planning for at least eight years.
For almost two hours, one resident after another took to the podium to voice opposition to the project, citing traffic, noise, water runoff, and the general erosion of Halfmoon’s rural image as their primary concerns. Resident Margaret Sautter, whom was among the project’s most vocal critics, took some extra time to speak with The Express.

Waterford School Takes on Bullying – by Michael Bielawski
Waterford – This past Jan 10 Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free Jr/Sr High School held the second of three assemblies on bullying. The speaker was Officer Jeremy Connors of the Waterford Police Department. “The main objective was to open the eyes of the students as to what goes on in the school and other forms of social media” he said.
Connors stressed that with today’s new media technologies such as smart phones and tablets, bullying has taken on new forms. “I think bullying is not just in the halls of the school anymore, it’s starting to resonate throughout the community via social media and individuals personal lives. With the fact that everyone has smart phones and Internet access, it’s almost instantaneous that the information gets put out onto the Internet or made public and it can ruin a person’s name or image in an instant.”

City Adresses $ Problems – by Harold Wessell
MECHANICVILLE, January 16th At the first City Business Meeting of the year, Finance Commissioner Jodie Gilheany reported in part that she did a calculation on the salary increases that were in the budget passed at the end of the year, and knew she wasn't happy with the 3 percent increase for the non-contractual personnel. The cost of the new CSEA contract with fringes was $17,302 and the cost of the non-cractual increases $15,042; which totals $32,343. "And the only extra money we had in the budget was $25,000. Therefore we have to find a way to make up another $7,300." She indicated she would work up some numbers, and would like the Council to consider increasing the percentage that the employee’s non-contractual pay toward their health insurance and of course the dental plan. "We have to cover this somehow."

Saratoga County No To SAFE Act – by Harold Wessell
BALLSTON SPA: January 15 th Saratoga County Supervisors anticipate voting on Tuesday Jan. 22 to deny the State government permission to associate its name in any way implying it is sponsoring the unfolding next phase of the SAFE Act.
The County will refuse the State permission to use its County name, letterhead, address, logo or seal, nor of the County Clerk or Sheriff, for purposes related to enforcement of the Act.

Michele “Shelly” Boucher – 57
MECHANICVILLE – Michele “Shelly” Boucher Westcott, 57, of Ellsworth Ave, died Tuesday, January 21 at Samaritan Hospital following a short illness, surrounded by her loving children. Born in Troy, August 14, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Ruppert “Toopie” and Mary Baker Boucher.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the church on Friday from 4-7 PM. Remembrances may be made to Hemstreet Park Fire Department, PO Box 667, Mechanicville, NY in loving memory of Shelly M. Westcott.
