Salway Rubino, 75, of Railroad St., died Tuesday, Feb. 24th at home, in the loving company of her family.Calling hours will be held at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N Main St., Mechanicville, on Thursday from 4-7PM.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at the Church with entombment to follow in St. Paul’s Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Saratoga, in loving memory of Lorraine A. Rubino.

Hawks & Owls at Mechanicville Library – by S. McBride

More than 60 people, from toddlers to senior citizens, braved the cold February wind on Thursday to take the opportunity to meet up close and personal some fascinating birds of prey at the Mechanicville District Public Library.  Mike Gaylo of Hawks, Owls and Wildlife in Buskirk, a biologist, rehabilatator and licensed falconer with 35 years’ experience working with these beautiful birds, introduced four of them to the gathering in the library’s presentation room.

Wellspring: Hope for Domestic Violence Survivors – by J. Dugan

Wellspring, formerly Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County, has been a presence in the community since its humble beginnings as an all-volunteer organization in the 1970’s. Through the years, the organization has incorporated and grown to meet the needs of area residents, educating, empowering and assisting them in getting the help that they need.

MECHANICVILLE - In the event of a major snowstorm, the commissioner may call for a snow emergency. Also, if there are three or more inches falling there is a snow emergency and will most likely be in the media. To be notified of a snow emergency, go to the city's website and click on the tab saying 'notify me' and fill out the required information.

Friends of Stillwater Library to Host Irish Festival – by J. Dugan

The Friends of the Stillwater Free Library will be hosting an Irish Festival at 1pm on Sunday, March 1st at the United Church Fellowship Hall. This all-ages event is sure to be fun for the whole family. Proceeds from the celebration will help fund the many important projects and programs that take place at the Stillwater Free Library.

Making the Case for Halfmoon Zip Code – by P. Bardunias

Senator Chuck Schumer came to Halfmoon last week to help Town officials advocate for this fast-growing town to have its own ZIP code.   The press conference centered on several concerns, the most urgent being the need to establish clear street addresses for first responders who often struggle to find the location of a distress call in Clifton Park or Halfmoon.    Clifton Park-Halfmoon Fire Chief Art Hunsinger said, “A new ZIP code for Halfmoon is necessary for emergency services…. we should not have to wait for a tragedy to happen in order for Halfmoon to get its own ZIP code.”  Hunsinger also pointed out that, when placing grant applications, the local emergency services organizations “lose grant money every year because they are sharing locations with other Fire Departments.”
