ALBANY --  Donald L. Marotta, 75, of Washington Ave., died April 28 after an extended illness at AlbanyMedical Center.  Born and raised in Amsterdam, August 9 1940, the son of the late Ralph Marotta and Rose Marotta Zullo & stepfather, Robbie Zullo.  Don was a 1958 graduate of Amsterdam High School and later continued his education at Fulton-

Dora E. (Fantauzzi) DeCasperis, 86

SOUTH WINDSOR , CT - Beloved wife of the late Anthony DeCasperis, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 11, 1930 in Troy, NY, daughter of the late Damiano and Maria (Vellucci) Fantauzzi.

Her family received friends on Friday, April 29, 2016,  at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial,  at St. Margaret March Church in South Windsor.

Burial was at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.

Mrs. Rose DiFucci Miller, 87

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Rose DiFucci Miller, 87, longtime resident of Mechanicville, died at her home early Monday morning, May 2nd, after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 PM at All Saints on The Hudson Church, 121 North Main St, Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.Calling hours at the North Main Street Church on Wednesday from Noon to 2 PM.IN lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to All Saints on the HudsonChurch, in loving memory of Rose M. Claire Haizlip Honored by Stillwater Library – by Sandy McBride

Friends, neighbors, colleagues and family gathered last Saturday at the Fellowship Hall at Stillwater United Church to wish Claire Haizlip a fond farewell.  The Stillwater Library, on whose board of directors Claire has served since 1994, hosted the event, complete with a beautiful cake and refreshments.  After living in Stillwater for more than 75 years, Claire will be moving to Canandaigua to be nearer to her son William.

Rensselaer County Selects New Dairy Princess – by C. Barton

Rensselaer County- On April 30th 2016 the 53rd annual Rensselaer County Dairy Princess Banquet and Pageant took place at the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.  The panel of judges who select the Dairy Princess candidate look for a young woman who best epitomizes the wholesome quality of milk, and will act as a responsible and dedicated spokesperson for the New York State Dairy Industry.

Halfmoon Solar Project

HALFMOON – On Wednesday April 20th Hillcrest Fire Department put together a joint training along with neighboring departments; Halfmoon – Waterford Fire Department and Hemstreet Park Fire Department to educate their firefighters on how to handle a solar panel emergency situation.

The firefighters took a tour of the 13 acre solar panels on Cary Road followed by a two hour educational training at Hillcrest’s station.

Dorothy Welch Choral Celebrates 40 Years – by Sandy McBride

It’s a rite of spring here in the Mechanicville area, as it has been for forty years!  On Saturday, May 14, at Mechanicville High School’s Paul N. Luther Auditorium, the Dorothy Welch Choral Society will present their annual concert rich in patriotic songs, with emphasis on honoring our four branches of the military service. The choir is directed by Vern Hellijas with piano accompaniment by Kathy Funaro.
