Dorothy Welch 40th Concert – by Sandy McBride

It was indeed a “Grand Night for Singing” on Saturday, May 14 as the Dorothy Welch Choral Society celebrated 40 years of making beautiful music.  A small but appreciative audience was treated to a series of timeless favorites at the Paul N. Luther Auditorium at Mechanicville High School. They led off with the concert’s title song and ended with the John Lennon classic “Imagine”.  Directed by Vern Hellijas, the society’s fifth director who has held that position for 16 years, and accompanied on the piano by Kathy Funaro who has been the group’s accompanist for 17 years, the choir sang a variety of old and not so old tunes to the delight of the audience.

Kickball for MACSC

Four teams kicked it for kids at McBride Fields Saturday in the first annual Mechanicville Area community Services Center’s kickball tournament to raise funds for their many programs benefitting families, especially children, here in our community.  And when the dust cleared, it was the Kona Kickers team that hoisted the Kick it for Kids trophy.  It was a fun afternoon, with laughter and teasing, hustling, running after and diving for the elusive ball as the teams, which also included Butler’s Clients, Legends Barbershop and TD Bank, gave their all.
