A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 2216 Rosa Rd,Schenectady, with burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Mechanicville.Calling hours at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., Schenectady on Monday from 4-8 PM.

MECHANICVILLE – Mildred L. Wiley, 78, former longtime resident of this city, died Friday, Aug. 15th in Cooperstown, NY after an extended illness.

MECHANICVILLE – Linda Dalaba Hicks, 62, of Hudson River Road, died Sunday, August 10th, at St. Peter’s Hospice after a brief illness.

Grand Opening of Hospitality Building on the Hudson – by T. Mahoney

MECHANICVILLE AUGUST 8- The Grand Opening of the Hospitality Building at the City Dock was held on Friday morning. This structure has showers and bathroom facilities for visiting boaters. Free water is available to boaters as well. This is one of the few facilities of its kind on the Upper Hudson River.The lights on Terminal St. from Main St. to the dock were donated by Stewart's Corp. Supervisor Tom Richardson reiterated that Gary Dake, on behalf of Stewart's donated the last $20,000 " without hesitation."

WWII Vet Stephen Dennis Receives Medals – by S. McBride

 

Stephen Dennis celebrated his 92nd birthday this past weekend.  Somehow it is fitting that just two days before that birthday he was presented with a long-overdue gift . . .  the medals he earned for his service to our nation in World War II seven decades ago as a sailor in the United States Navy.

In a ceremony at Lt. Fred H. Clark Post 91 of the American Legion, to the cheers and cries of “Thank you!” from the friends, family members, officials and Legionnaires in attendance, Steve was presented with the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Stars, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Combat Action Ribbon.  He was also presented the New York State Senate’s Liberty Medal, and the Saratoga County Veterans’ Service Medal from the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.

Patricia T. Booth – 89

MECHANICVILLE - Patricia T. Booth of North Main Street in Mechanicville passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 in Bennington Vermont. She was 89 years old.

Relatives and friends may call from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday, August 14 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street in Schaghticoke. Augustine “Augie” Almela – 78

 

MECHANICVILLE - Augustine "Augie" Almela, age 78, passed away into eternal rest on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born in Mechanicville on April 11, 1936, Augie was the cherished son of the late Augustine "Gus" and Mae (Ross) Almela.

A celebration of his life will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, August 13 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 40 McBride Road, Mechanicville. MACSC Annual School Supply Drive

MECHANICVILLE - MACSC’s annual School Supply Drive will take place on Friday, August 29th. Applications are available in the MACSC lobby from 9am to 5pm until Friday, August 15th. In order to sign your child up you must have their supply list. Once the application and the supply list are returned, the parent will be given a time on August 29th to come and pick up their child’s supplies.
