Yellow Ribbon Day at Halfmoon – by M. LeMay
April 9th New York State Yellow Ribbon Day
HALFMOON – On Thursday April 9th The Halfmoon Town Hall held a Yellow Ribbon Day Ceremony commemorating the service of military personnel who keep us free and our way of life secure. This event is held annually to honor U.S. military personnel and veterans.

Frank “Nick” Perrotta, Jr.
MECHANICVILLE – Frank “Nick” Perrotta, Jr. of Dewey Ave., died unexpectedly at home Sunday, April 19th of natural causes.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 12:30 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.

Awards and Achievements/Local College Students
Students Raise Nearly $70,000 at 2015 Relay for Life
ONEONTA, NY (04/20/2015)(readMedia)-- Students from SUNY Oneonta and neighboring Hartwick College teamed up to raise $67,293—a record amount—for the American Cancer Society during a Relay for Life event April 17-18, and donations are still coming in. More than 1,500 students camped out all night in SUNY Oneonta's Alumni Field House, with team members taking turns walking laps around the gym from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. The annual event was organized by the Colleges Against Cancer student groups at the two colleges with support from SUNY Oneonta's Center for Social Responsibility and Community (CSRC).
The following area students helped organize the event:
Allison Proctor of Clifton Park (12065), NY, a member of SUNY Oneonta's Colleges Against Cancer chapter and Childhood Education (1-6) major.
Dakota Kaplan of Clifton Park (12065), NY, a member of SUNY Oneonta's Colleges Against Cancer chapter and Human Ecology major.
Adirondack – Save-A-Stray Pets for Adoption
Allison & Esmeralda - DOB 5-28-14. Weight 11 lbs, dachshund/beagle. These two babies are about a year old and were rescued from a hoarding situation and went into one of our fosters. They are safe now , are very social and love attention. They do not have to go together and we would love to find them a forever home, as they deserve the very best. They have age appropriate shots, have been vet check and are ready to go. Marie - Lab mix - Meet Marie. She is a 4 month old Lab Pyrenees mix. She has bee microchipped, has all her shots and spayed. She is 90% house trained and walks well on a leash. She love other animals and kids and would make an outstanding addition to any family. She has been in foster for 2 months and is now ready to go into a furever home. Cassie - Cassie came to us from a local kill shelter. She is beautiful and sweet. She is a little over a year old, spayed, up to date on vaccine and vet checked. STILLWATER APRIL 11- Bill Sheehan was honored on Saturday for 70 years of service to and membership in the American Legion Earl J. Manning Post 490 in Stillwater. Bill has been a prolific contributor to this newspaper over the past several decades. Bill has described in vivid detail the feats of many Stillwater athletes, helped console grieving families with heartfelt descriptions of their loved ones, and reminded all of us, both in print and in his many Memorial Day and American Legion speeches, of the ultimate sacrifice so many made while serving their country.

A nation breathing a collective sigh of relief after a long and bloody civil war. A packed theater. A celebratory crowd. A wave of laughter punctuated by the pop of a single gunshot. A man leaping to the stage in front of a full-house crowd, crying “Sic semper tyrannis!” Screams. A blood-curdling shriek from the flag-draped box from which the man had jumped at stage left. Confusion. Chaos. Fear.

Plans to Re-Open Brown’s Beach – by H. Wessell
STILLWATER, April 10 – Supervisor Edward Kinowski says that very soon, invitations will be going out to local officials and businesspeople to be part of the May 30, long dreamed of, grand reopening of Brown's Beach. "Let's have a nice ribbon cutting. We may be lucky, because it appears the ice is slowly going away – And by May 30 I think it's all going to be gone! ... Things are gearing up."
