World War I began with the assassination of one small nation’s leader in April, 1914 which ignited a glut of regional hostilities, and like a spider snaring victims in a web, drew much of Europe into a war like none the world had ever seen before.

   The United States resisted involvement for several years, not wanting to get sucked into a primarily European war that had little meaning for the western hemisphere.  But on April 6, 1917, the United States declared war on Germany after a number of attacks on civilian ships and an attempt by Germany to draw Mexico into the war on their side.

Schaghticoke-The Schaghticoke Fairgrounds once again will be home to this years annual WGNA Countryfest on July 11th 2015. The first year that the event was held in Schaghticoke, 107.7 WGNA also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Countryfest. The momentum for the festival, now in its 22nd year, is still going strong as the community prepares for the annual event in the Town of Schaghticoke for the third year running.

Brown’s Beach Too Successful? – by H. Wessell

SARATOGA LAKE, July 3: On Friday morning Brown’s Beach was opened for the holiday weekend at 10:00AM; said Town Supervisor Edward Kinowski in “what we called a soft opening, to try for the summer to be open from 10 to 8, every day, because we think the summer hours are going to drive it."

NYSEG Makes Application; Bridges in Mechanicville – by T. Mahoney

MECHANICVILLE JUNE 30- In order to lift the moratorium in the Mechanicville area for increased natural gas customers, NYSEG will need to construct a compressed gas facility at its location on Central Avenue. The plan is for 2 trucks at a time to deliver compressed natural gas.

Waterford Town Police Arrests

On Sunday, July 5, 2015 while investigating a vehicle which was partially blocking a driveway, PO Gibbins arrested the below listed defendant and charged her with:

Driving While Intoxicated

Driving with more than .08 of 1% of alcohol

Failure to Obey a Police Officer

It was found that the defendant was operating a vehicle with a B.A.C. of 0.11%. The defendant was issued 3 UTTs and released and is scheduled to appear in Waterford Justice Court on July 16, 2015 at 6 PM.

On Saturday, July 4, 2015 at about 8:50 PM Sgt. P. O’Connell received a call in regards to a vehicle being driven recklessly in the Town of Waterford, Upon stopping the vehicle and after investigating the below listed defendant was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

The defendant was issued a UTT and is scheduled to appear in Waterford Justice Court on July 16, 2015 at 6 PM.
