Alexis Mone Earns Spring 2015 Dean's List Honors at Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, RI (07/29/2015)(readMedia)-- Alexis Mone, a resident of Mechanicville, NY, has been named to the Spring 2015 Dean's List at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. Alexis is a Marine Biology major. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Lawyer – 63

STILLWATER – Mrs. Barbara Ann Lawyer, 63, of County Route 70, died suddenly at home Tuesday, July 28th, after being stricken.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 4 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours will precede the service from 2-4 PM on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Assoc., in loving and fond memory of Barbara Ann Lawyer.

Jessie A. Sheldon – 71

VALLEY FALLS - Jessie A. Sheldon of North Street passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her loving family at her side. She was 71.

Relatives and friends may call from 10-12 noon on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 Rt. 40 Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be in the church at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Memory’s Garden Cemetery, Colonie.

Robert Baldwin Campbell – 86

MELROSE - Robert Baldwin Campbell of Route 40 passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Barnwell Nursing Center in Valatie. He was 86.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Melrose United Methodist Church, 20 Church Street, Melrose. Burial with military honors will be on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 9am in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Catherine A. Whitney McBride – 47

MECHANICVILLE – Catherine A. Whitney McBride, 47, of Round Lake Ave. died peacefully, early Wednesday morning, July 29, at Saratoga Hospital in the company of her loving family. Born in Troy, July 3, 1968, she was the daughter of Mary Scott Whitney of Burnt Hills and the late Charles R. Whitney who died in 1993.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 31 at 7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 South Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with calling hours from 4-7PM prior to the service. Interment at the Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

A Call to the Bullpen With Sam DeCelle – Does Pete Rose Deserve this Punishment?

Imagine this, a MLB Hall of Fame induction class that consisted of Pete Rose. Pete Rose, the all time hits leader, but proven guilty of betting on baseball during his playing and managing days.

When I say imagine it, I say that because as of now that will never happen. Rose was banned from baseball many years ago when he was found guilty of betting on Cincinnati Reds games back when he was a player/manager for the ball club. MLB rules forbid any players or managers from placing bets on the sport while they are active and involved in the game.

Ernie Martin Honored – by Vince Gallagher

STILLWATER JULY 21 –Residents, friends and neighbors stopped by the Stillwater Village Board Room to honor their former mayor Ernest  Martin.   “I’m honored and I’m humbled…I’m proud of my accomplishments,” said Martin. Rick Nelson was elected  the new village mayor this past March. He and former Stillwater mayor David Rathbun were present to pay tribute to Martin, along with Senator Kathy Marchione, who  presented the former mayor with an official service award from the New York State Senate.

Mechanicville SD Hopes to Move Forward with Building Project – by Sam DeCelle

The Mechanicville Jr. Sr. High School/Elementary School is hoping to get a much- needed make over. School Superintendent Dr. Michael J. McCarthy and Chair Person John Taglione, of the Exploratory Facilities Committee, are working on a plan that could possibly lead to the building project in the district that would renovate many areas of the existing building.
