HALFMOON  APRIL 8– Carol Pingleski Hotaling, the woman who started the movement for Yellow Ribbon Day spoke at the Yellow Ribbon ceremonies at the Town Hall. She thanked State Senators Farley , marchione and Assemblyman Tedisco for their efforts to Make April 9th recognized throughout New York State as Yellow Ribbon Day.

COHOES - Nearly 2,400 people gathered together at the Cohoes High School Gymnasium on Monday night, April 4. But this wasn’t for a sporting event or a school assembly; it was to see and hear the former U.S. Senator from New York and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Fireball Run to Visit Our Area

CLIFTON PARK -, April 6, 2016:  Fireball Run, a world-famous television and internet streaming series, will be crossing New York State in late September, passing through southern Saratoga County on September 29/30, 2016.   Welcome events are planned in Ballston Spa and Clifton Park as 40 competing teams vie for top honors in solving clues, engaging with historic artifacts and meeting significant figures in our region and nation’s history.  Contestants also aid in the search for America’s missing children, and to date 48 children have been found in part by their efforts.

Stillwater Central School Budget Vote – by V. Gallagher

STILLWATER – On May 17, Stillwater Central School District residents will vote on a proposed $23,989,459 budget for the 2016-17 school year. The board of education unanimously adopted the budget proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, April 5. If voters approve the spending plan, the projected tax levy—the total amount of money a school district can raise through property taxes—would increase by 4.81 percent. This increase remains below Stillwater’s maximum allowable tax levy increase as determined by the state’s tax levy cap formula.

Hoosic Valley Celebrates Music in Our Schools Month – by C. Barton

March was Music in our Schools Month and the Hoosic Valley Music Department and students did an incredible job bringing music to the Hoosic Valley Schools and surrounding communities.  It has been proven that there is a valuable link between music education and academic success.  The study of music helps develop language and reasoning, improves memorization skills,  increases coordination and the sense of achievement keeps students engaged throughout their school days.

Louis Zalar – 78

Louis Zalar, age 78, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Loretta, in 2013. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7:00pm on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 10:30am in the funeral home with burial in the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors.

Arthur Joseph Overocker, Jr. – 79

STILLWATER - Arthur Joseph Overocker, Jr., of High Street passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.
Born in Schaghticoke, August 24, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Lesson) Overocker, Sr., he was a 1954 graduate of Stillwater Central School. Thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years as a fighter aircraft mechanic.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at All Saints on the Hudson Church, Stillwater. Burial with military honors will follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
