Clifton Park/Halfmoon EMS Host Drive for Local Teen

CLIFTON PARkK---Clifton Park & Halfmoon Emergency Corps. (CPHM EMS), in partnership with Be The Match, will host “Clifton Park & Halfmoon Saves Lives”, a donor screening and registry with the hopes of finding a bone marrow match for Reese Johnson, a 14-year-old Ballston Spa resident who is battling Leukemia. The event will take place on Sunday, March 15th from 1:00pm-4:00pm at CPHM EMS, 15 Crossing Blvd. Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Local athletes compete for SUNY Oneonta women's cross country team during fall season

ONEONTA, NY (12/15/2014)(readMedia)-- 26 student athletes competed for the SUNY Oneonta women's cross country team during the recently completed fall season.

The team competed in eight meets this fall and finished in second place at the SUNYAC Championships and had its best finish of third place at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. The team also qualified for its second straight NCAA championship where they finished 24th.

Margaret Sanderson of Schaghticoke (12154); Margaret competed in four meets this fall and posted a personal best 4.5K time of 19:15.0 at the 11th Annual SUNY Oneonta Airfield Invitational and a personal best 5K time of 22:59.0 at the Rochester Yellow Jacket XC Invitational.

Rachael Shine of Clifton Park (12065); Rachael competed in six meets this fall and posted a personal best 6K time of 22:36.2 at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Cross Crountry Championships. Rachael finished 24th at the Atlantic Region Championships to earn All-Region Honors.

Austin Hughes competes on the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team

ONEONTA, NY (12/15/2014)(readMedia)-- Austin Hughes a Business Economics major from Clifton Park, NY was a member of the 2014 SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team. The team finished 21-1-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the SUNYAC Conference. The team won the SUNYAC title and qualified for the NCAA tournament for a fourth straight year. In the tournament, they advanced all the way to the national semifinals for the second time in four years.

Austin played in 18 games this season and started in three of them. He had two assists for a total of two points.

Brittany Hurd Recognized as Honors Program Student at SUNY Delhi

Mark Ross-Hixson of Johnsonville Receives Scholarship at Clarkson University

POTSDAM, NY (12/11/2014)(readMedia)-- Mark Ethan Alexander Ross-Hixson of Johnsonville, N.Y., majoring in mechanical engineering at Clarkson University, received the Ernest '42 and Constance Richmond Memorial Endowed Scholarship during the 2014-2015 academic year.

 

Thanksgiving Food Drive to Feed 800 Families

NOVEMBER 21- Eight hundred families will have a Thanksgiving turkey dinner this year. The 8th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, spearheaded by Mike Raucci of Toyota of Clifton Park will take care of families in the local area.

Local Student in Peer Tutor at Hamilton College

Clinton, N.Y. – Emily E. Moore, daughter of Eva and John Moore of Valley Falls, and a senior at Hamilton College, is serving as a peer tutor in the Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning Center (QSR) at Hamilton this year. The mission of the QSR Center is to support students in the development of their academic skills, and to foster collaborative learning and intellectual growth.

Local Students Honored as Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Awards Scholarships for Incoming, Current Students

TROY, NY (11/17/2014)(readMedia)-- Nearly 100 Hudson Valley Community College students received honors and scholarships at the annual Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Scholarship Reception on Friday, Nov. 14.

Each year, the college Foundation recognizes students who were awarded scholarships this past year as well as the donors who make these scholarships possible. The reception took place in the McDonough Sports Complex.

Kathryn Trainor of Clifton Park, NY, Earns Empire 8 Conference Co-Champion Title with Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, NY (11/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Kathryn Trainor of Clifton Park, NY, earned the Empire 8 Conference co-champion title with Nazareth College's women's soccer team. Nazareth and Ithaca met for the 10th time in the finals of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament for women's soccer with an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line. For the sixth time in that stretch, there were two winners. The Golden Flyers and the Bombers played to a 0-0 tie and were declared Empire 8 co-champions. Nazareth then gained the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of a 4-3 advantage in the post-game penalty kick session.

Local Heroes Take Flight of Honor – by C. Barton

Capital District-On Saturday October 4th following a celebratory ceremony to kick off the day, the Leatherstocking Honor Flight set off for a trip to Washington D.C. The Honor Flight allowed many Capital Region Veterans to “experience and reflect together at their memorials.” The Leatherstocking Honor Flight was established in 2008. Leatherstocking is hub of the National Honor Flight Network, which serves the Greater Capital District of York, Western Massachusetts and Vermont. To date over 1,000 Veterans have been escorted to Washington D.C by way of the Leatherstocking Honor Flight. Currently there are hubs in almost all of the 50 states, each supporting the mission, “to recognize American Veterans for their sacrifices and achievements by flying them to Washington D.C to see their memorials, at no cost to them.”
