TILLWATER OCTOBER 25- Danny "Elvis" Romines and Courtney "Patsy Cline" Shane filled up the SACC auditorium on Saturday night. The Mechanicville Rotary Club sponsors Elvis every year to raise money for winter coats for needy children. Food and beverage sales revenue went to SACC so 2 worthy causes benefited.This year the show was moved from Mechanicville to Stillwater and Patsy Cline was added to the program.
STILLWATER, October 21-Faced with a pattern of the State of New York giving less and less to smaller school districts that already have less and less, Stillwater Central School Superintendent Dr. Stanley Maziejka and a North Country Superintendent have taken the lead in a new tactic. Banding together with more and more schools in the 31-school district served by the area BOCES, they are ready to do what everybody else looking for more money from Albany does , enlisting their own lobbyist.

Last week I talked a bit about the lack of information about 18th century schools in Schaghticoke. Though New York State began funding schools in 1795, the Common School Law, passed in 1812, organized the schools and funding more comprehensively.
Private schools existed in the 19th century as well. One local non-public school option for girls was the Troy Female Seminary, founded in Waterford by Emma Hart Willard in 1819 and later moved to Troy.

Steve Stallmer is a native of Saratoga Springs and a product of our local public school system. He grew up in Geyser Crest and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1994. While on a full academic scholarship at Marymount University, in Arlington, VA, he began his career in public service as an intern for Congressman Jerry Solomon.

It’s that time of year again, when we are on election overload with gaudy signs blotting the roadsides, mailers and seemingly non-stop TV spots either extolling the virtues of the candidates or letting us know how dishonest and corrupt they are. If we can believe everything we’re hearing and reading in these negative ads, we are in a whole lot of trouble.

Valley Falls- October 8th from 7-8:30pm the community of Valley Falls was invited to attend an informational session to learn if listing the village on the National Historic Register would benefit property owners in the village. William Krattinger of New York’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and Erin Tobin, Regional Director of Technical Services and Grants for the Preservation League of New York State spoke to the community about the possibility of listing the Village on the National Register of Historic Places. “At the end of the day the community decides.” Krattinger and Tobin discussed with the many property owners who attended the informational session the pros and cons of nominating Valley Falls for the National Register. “Valley Falls is a beautiful place. I am sure you all are happy and proud to live here,” says Tobin.

HALFMOON - Christopher J. DeBernardo, 61, of Dunsbach Rd., died Thursday morning, October 23rd, following an 18 month courageous battle with brain cancer. Chris and his devoted wife Marilyn pursued all known medical procedures.
Calling hours will be at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 PM, 39 So. Main Street, Mechanicville, followed by a funeral service at 7 PM at the funeral home.
A Burial Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Chapel at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd.,Albany (Colonie). Please arrive at Cemetary by 10:45 AM.

MECHANICVILLE – Michael F. Camarota, 88, former resident and businessman of this City, died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 21st at Saratoga Hospital, after an extended illness.
