Schaghticoke in 1840 – by Chris Kelly

I have been illustrating the lives of people in Schaghticoke in 1840 through the inventories in their probate files, made when they died without wills. Today I will conclude with one more.

Alexander A. Miller, died at age 27 in 1826.  This young man, who left a widow and small daughter, was a non-commissioned officer in the local infantry regiment in the New York State Militia. It seems from the inventory that he was a farmer, though it also lists a set of blacksmith tools.  Except for a wagon, the most valuable thing in his estate was a cloak worth $40.

GE Settlement Will Get County Water Out of Debt – by H. Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, May 11 – Following an Executive Session for the purpose of discussing litigation, the Saratoga County  Board of Supervisors Law and Finance committee recommended authorizing a settlement in 2011 litigation, just reached,  against the General Electric Company for damages associated with the dredging of PCBs from the Hudson River.

ONEONTA, NY (05/16/2016)-- Rachael Shine of Clifton Park, NY, was inducted into Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, during SUNY Oneonta's thirty-seventh annual induction ceremony on May 1, 2016.

Joseph A. Rubino – 75

MECHANICVILLE –  Joseph A. Rubino, 75, of Ensign Ave., died Saturday afternoon, after a brief illness, at St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.  Born in Troy, April 7, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Jennie D’Aloia Rubino.

 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17 at 11:30AM at All Saints on the Hudson SouthChurch, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville.  Inurnment with military honors will follow at the SaratogaNational Cemetery.  A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 10 – 11:15AM prior to the Mass on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly urges that donations be made to the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation, 449 Route 146, Suite 101, Clifton Park, NY 12065 in memory of Joseph A. Rubino.

Angelo “Flash” DeMicco – 91

MECHANICVILLE – Angelo “Flash” DeMicco, 91, died Thursday May 12th at Wesley Health Care,Saratoga Springs.  A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Jan 29, 1925, son of the late Biaggio and Agnes Anatriello DeMicco.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday evening at 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So.Main St., Mechanicville.  Calling hours from 5-7 PM.   An entombment service with military honors is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 AM at the Saratoga NationalCemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, in respectful memory of Angelo “Flash” DeMicco.

Clifton Park's Samantha Buntich graduates from Emerson College in Boston

BOSTON, MA (05/13/2016)-- On Sunday, May 8, Samantha Buntich of Clifton Park, NY graduated from Emerson College. Buntich earned a BA in Theatre Studies: Acting.

At Emerson's 136th Commencement ceremony, approximately 970 bachelor's degrees were conferred during the undergraduate exercises and more than 350 master's degrees were conferred during the graduate exercises.

Halfmoon's Sarah Gariepy Named to Emerson College's Dean's List for spring 2016

BOSTON, MA (05/13/2016)-- Sarah Gariepy of Halfmoon, NY was named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the spring 2016 semester. Gariepy is majoring in Design/Technology. The requirement to make Emerson's Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Anthony J. “Tony” Fiacco – 84

MECHANICVILLE – Anthony J. “Tony” Fiacco, 84, of No. Sixth Ave., died Tuesday morning at Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness.

At Tony’s request, family services will be private with no public hours.

Friends are welcome to attend a Burial Service with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery on Thursday at 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to one’s local Community Hospice in memory of Anthony J. Fiacco.
