City To Review Charter August 7th – By Harold Wessell
MECHANICVILLE, July 3 – The City of Mechanicville will continue its series of public meetings in the process of reviewing its City Charter and City Code, with further segments on August 7 and September 4, at the Council's regular 7PM meetings.
Accounts Commissioner Mark Seber reminded residents that the August 7 meeting will address sections 1-34, which include the fire department; and on September 4, sections 39-200 on the building code changes, where he pointed out “some significant changes" are proposed...
Then on Oct. 2, he added, the plan is to have an official public hearing on the entire charter/ code document, with probably a vote on the document that evening.
He noted that all the proposed changes are available on the City website.

City of Mechanicville Hearing on Charter – By Harold Wessell
MECHANICVILLE, June 5 – The City Council held the first of several public hearings expected over next few months to update and make changes to the charter and city code.
The June 5 public hearing was on the charter portion of the project.
Accounts Commissioner Mark Seber pointed out that the Council considered a hearing at the next meeting, but that is July 3. While there will be a meeting as usual at 7PM, it was felt the coming holiday makes it not the best time for a public hearing. The next one accordingly will be at the first meeting in August, then in September and probably October.

CITY OF MECHANICVILLE LOOKING FOR QUALIFIED CONTRACTORS
Residential Rehabilitation Program In Search of Contractors
The City of Mechanicville is looking for contractors to participate in a grant program funded by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal known as the HOME program. The program will make grants available to improve owner-occupied properties that serve low and moderate income residents. As part of the program, the City must maintain a list of qualified contractors in the area. Contractors on the list will receive bid requests for residential rehabilitation projects from property owners that are participating in the program.
All contractors who are interested in being considered for work related to the HOME grant program must first submit their qualifications. The qualification form can be obtained at City Hall in the Accounts office. Contractors must meet insurance requirements, provide contact information, and provide three references in order to be considered.
Minority and women owned businesses are encouraged to submit their qualifications.
For more information on the City’s new HOME Program, contact Gina Kenyon at City Hall at (518) 664-7303. A detailed summary of eligibility criteria and other requirements of the program is available upon request.
City of Mechanicville Launches New Housing Rehab Program $340,000 in Grants Now Available
MECHANICVILLE - The City of Mechanicville was awarded a HOME grant from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal in December 2012. Grants of $5,000 to $25,000 per residential unit are now available from the City for the purpose of making health and safety, energy efficiency and other critical improvements to both owner-occupied buildings (including one and two family properties).
The purpose of the HOME program is to increase the availability and quality of affordable housing for low-income families. As such, all residential units rehabilitated using HOME funds must be occupied by families whose annual income does not exceed limits established by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for Saratoga County.
Camoin Associates of Saratoga Springs is under contract to administer the program, in partnership with the City. Application materials will be available starting Thursday, May 30th at the City Accounts Office in City Hall, 36 N. Main Street, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Contact Gina Kenyon at the City at 664-7303 for information on how to apply. Applications will not be accepted after June 28th and will be time stamped, so the sooner you are able to submit a complete application the better.
“I am thrilled to be able to offer financial assistance to residential property owners here in the City. This is an important piece of the City’s economic development goals and we are looking forward to getting the program started,” said Mayor Anthony Sylvester.

City Police Taking Strong Stance on Problems at Plaza – By Harold Wessell
MECHANICVILLE, May 1 – City Police will increase patrol of the Park Avenue Plaza, and seek more collaboration with businesses, in the wake of troublesome large group loitering there that can lead to fights, and has.
Chief Joseph Waldron addressing the City Council at its May agenda meeting reported that there has been a rise in such incidents, and the department will be "taking a strong stance against loitering." He said two persons were seriously injured from one fight that developed inside the Plaza.
Another time, officers pulled over “a car with six people, vodka and a 30 pack of Budweiser, and not one person over 20." One became resistant and injured an officer, he added.

Where There is Love – By Sandy McBride
With this heartfelt theme, the All Saints on the Hudson Youth Council has once again put on a successful benefit basketball night to raise funds to assist two families in the Mechanicville and Stillwater communities who have been in the fight of their lives.
The love was apparent on Saturday night, April 20 as a near-capacity crowd gathered in the Mechanicville High School gym to cheer on teams from Mechanicville and Stillwater, to purchase tickets on a fantastic array of raffle baskets donated by local businesses, school groups, organizations and families, to enjoy good food and good company, and to show their shoulder to shoulder support for these two families.
