Supervisor Will Propose Easier Use of Fund Balance

TOWN OF STILLWATER, October 11. Town Supervisor Ed Kinowski plans to add a suggestion for more creative use of some of the Town's fund balance in the 2013 Town Budget at a Public Hearing on the plan this (Oct. 25) evening.
The change, he explained at the Oct. 11 agenda meeting, will be a suggestion that the Board to take a portion of “the best-guess fund balance we would have," apply some of that to use in the budget. Then, he said with some optimism, "The rest of it would go to begin our magical and one-time, final savings account, to put us forward into the future for new buildings and anything else we so desire."

Secretary of Sports by Doug Keenholts

 

It’s election season, and no matter what side of the aisle you reside on, I think we can all agree that the mailings, robo-calls, and commercials cannot end soon enough.  Every candidate promising this or that, when we know full well 95% of it is simply political posturing.  With all of the positions candidates take a stand on, you would think they would find some that would appeal to the masses -Democrats and Republicans alike.  I have an idea for them:  appoint a Secretary of Sports.  Imagine if President Obama or Governor Romney, in his next stump speech, announced that on his first day in office he would appoint someone to be in charge of fixing all the things wrong with sports in this country?  Would it sway your vote?  While I will quickly concede that it is certainly not the MOST important issue facing our country – I think this is an area where Democrats and Republicans could find some common ground.  In fact, I’d like to nominate myself for the position of Secretary of Sports.  Here is my 10-point plan.  Thank you for your consideration.

Eileen M. Andres

CLIFTON PARK – Eileen M. Andres of Hollandale Lane, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 31st, at Daughters of Sarah in Albany, after an illness.

Born in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Agnes Fitzgerald Flynn.  She grew up and raised her family in Yonkers, later lived in Massachusetts, before moving to CliftonPark in the early 1970’s.

Mrs. Frances Dunn Ryan — 72


TROY – Mrs. Frances Dunn Ryan, 72, of Summit Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 21st, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Stillwater Feb. 15, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Vardy Dunn.  She grew up in the Willow Glen/Crow Hill section and attended Mechanicville schools.

Edward Francis Hinchey — 85


STILLWATER – Edward Francis Hinchey, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 21st at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a short illness.

Born in the Riverside hamlet of the Town of Stillwater, he and family moved to Pruyn Hill and attended Mechanicville Schools.

Dorothy “Dottie” Heslin – 67

MECHANICVILLE – Dorothy “Dottie” Heslin, former resident of Hemstreet Park, died Wednesday, Oct. 17th, on her 67th birthday, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas after a brief illness.

The daughter of the late Raymond and Shirley Neaton Heslin, she was a 1963 graduate of Mechanicville High School.  She moved south many years ago, and came north several times over the years.

Stillwater Central School/PTA and Regional Food Bank Team Up

STILLWATER-- Stillwater Central School District is teaming up with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to start a new BackPack Program this fall. The program is designed to provide 30 qualifying Stillwater students with backpacks filled with nutritious food each week. The district is seeking financial and/or food donations through the Regional Food Bank and volunteers to help pack and transport the backpacks.

   The bags will be packed each week by volunteers and discreetly distributed to participating children every Friday afternoon. One hundred percent of the donations go toward buying food for Stillwater students.

How can I help?

To make a monetary donation, go directly to the Regional Food Bank's website at http://www.rfbneny.com to donate. Please be sure to indicate that you would like the funds to be directed to the "Stillwater BackPack Program."

If you're interested in volunteering your time to pack or transport the backpacks, please contact PTA Co-President Kiki Wagner at kikimwagner@gmail.com.  The BackPack program was started in 2007 and is now available at 30 schools in 10 counties throughout upstate NY. The program serves more than 600 students a week.
