Paul J. Higgs – 55

MECHANICVILLE – Paul J. Higgs, 55, of No Main St., died suddenly on Wednesday, November 19th at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 25, 1959, he was the son of Kathryn Barthlow Higgs of Carrollton, GA and the late Paul Higgs. A self taught chef, Paul had worked at Roma Food Imports in Latham for the past 20 years and previously at the Ramada Inn in Schenectady.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at 7:00PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118. Calling hours will be held prior to the service on Sunday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.

Those wishing to remember Paul in a special way are asked to help support his family in his absence by donating to Margaret Higgs, C/O Devito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118.

Stillwater Police have arrested Joseph W. Gethins (age 23) of Stillwater and Heather Schrimsher (age 23) of Stillwater and charged them both with Burglary 3nd degree (Felony) and Criminal Mischief 2nd degree (Felony) following an incident in Saratoga Hills Mobile Home Park located in the Town of Stillwater. It was determined during an investigation that the two defendants unlawfully entered an unoccupied dwelling and proceeded to vandalize the interior of the property before fleeing. The property sustained over $15,000.00 in damages. Gethins was also charged with Petit Larceny (misdemeanor) for an unrelated incident in which he shoplifted beer, food and paper towels from Price Chopper in Stillwater. The defendants surrendered to police and were arraigned in Stillwater Town Court. Bail was set at $20,000.00 bond for Gethins and $15,000.00 bond for Schrimsher. Both were transported to Saratoga County Jail. The investigation was handled by 1st Sgt. Ray Cordani and Ptl. Paul Pecor

He is vet checked and has his vaccines, de-wormed, flea controlled and more! Come and rescue Socks and make him a happy boy once again. Sarge was seized from a homeless person in Warren county. He has had a rough start but we are finding out what a sweet dog he is. He likes to go on walks and rides well in a car. Sarge has met several dogs and has been good around them. (proper meet & greet is required). He is good with adults and older children.

Bast is the Greek cat goddess and the kitty for adoption lives up to her name. Her long fur is glossy, silky and beautiful and her white whiskers stand out against it. She strolls around with a regal air about her, but will play when the mood strikes her. She can hold her own with other cats and dogs and loves to rub up on people. Mechanicville-Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk Raises $48,000

MECHANICVILLE NOVEMBER12- Mechanicville Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk President Amy Pickett announced that over $48,000 was raised this year. She made the announcement at the committee's annual banquet held Wednesday night at The End Zone.This total exceeds the previous year's total. She singled out the Mechanicville Girls Soccer team for raising $2,390.85.

Mechanicville Students Honor Veterans – by Sandy McBride

The hallways all the way from the entrance to the gymnasium at Mechanicville Elementary School were a picture of patriotism last Wednesday as the students prepared to welcome honored guests to their annual Veterans Day celebration.  Drawings of flags and patriotic sayings, letters to and pictures of family military members and veterans, all hand-drawn and hand-lettered by the kids, presented a meaningful and colorful greeting to the arriving guests.

Stillwater Gears Up for Bicentennial

STILLWATER - On April 16, 2016, Stillwater residents will be celebrating the village's 200th birthday. While that\'92s still months away, there are several events in the works now leading up to this bicentennial celebration. A dinner dance has been organized at the Stillwater Community Center, and in February the village will be hosting their annual Winter Fest. Festivities traditionally include ice skating and ice hockey games at the village ice rink, downhill sledding, cross country skiing, music, food and more.
