Robert W. Carknard – 84

VALLEY FALLS –  Robert W. Carknard, 84, of Charles St., died Wednesday at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Born in Valley Falls, January 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Irving “Reed” and Lorraine Jones Carknard.

A Funeral Service will be held at Noon on Monday, Dec. 16th at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So Main St., Mechanicville 12118 with burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday at the funeral home from 2-5PM. In lieu of flowers, Robert’s family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 507 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 in respectful memory of Robert W. Tippy is a neutered 4-month old male who is up to date on all his shots. He has the coolest coat: he looks black until you look closely and see that he is a black tiger! Tippy is a shy, but friendly, little guy. He is happy to cuddle in your lap and loves belly rubs. Tippy's foster reports that he purrs and plays a lot! He was found living in a parking lot with his Mum and 2 siblings (see adoptable HOPE cat Mum).

Mechanicville High School Variety Show – By Sandy McBride

The Mechanicville Junior/Senior High School Drama Club does it all. They are aspiring writers. They choreograph their own dances. They sing, they play guitar, they do monologues and pratfalls. They are adept at improv. They can operate lights, sound systems, set up a stage. They run a snack bar, sell raffle tickets, and greet guests. If it needs to be done, they get it done.

McDonald’s In Waterford Destroyed by Fire – LeMay Page 2/Wessel Page 18

WATERFORD - An early morning fire broke out on Saturday at The McDonald’s on Saratoga Ave in Waterford. The 911 call came in at approximately 3:20 am from the McDonald’s employee. Four employees were in the store at the time working and a patron at the drive through. All employees were able to exit the building and no injuries were reported. The fire is believed to have stared in the fryers and extended into the ventilation system. Store owner Roger Grout stated “the fire suppression system was successfully discharged but did not reach the source of the flames do to the fact that the flames had made their way into the ventilation system.” Four local fire departments fought the early morning blaze.

John H. Ciulla, Sr. – 86

MECHANICVILLE – John H. Ciulla, Sr., 86, of West St., Riverside, died Monday morning, Dec. 2nd, at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Oct. 31, 1927, son of the late Anthony and Gaetanina Ciulla, John who was affectionately known to family and friends as “Blackie”, left high school, Class of 1946, and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

A production foreman with the General Electric’s Silicone Prod. Division in Waterford, for many years, retiring in 1987.  Previously he worked at the former WESVACO in Mechanicville.

A charter member of the Riverside Fire Dept., and longtime member of the Henry F. Lefko American Legion Post of Riverside, John was an active member of the Mechanicville Golf Course, where he was the originator of the club’s youth program, and was longtime member of the Frog Island golf league and the president and secretary of the Old Timers league for years.  John welcomed any child who wanted to learn the game of golf, with open arms and a lot of patience.

He also bowled in the Frog Island bowling league for years.

A loving husband, proud father, and caring grand and great grandfather, John instilled getting an education to his family, encouraging and sacrificing when needed, to see all his children fulfill their lives, thru education and/or service to their community.

A handyman at heart, John was always willing to assist his family and friends with any home improvement project.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sylvia D’Avignon Ciulla, sons: recently retired Saratoga County Public Defender John and wife Linda Ciulla, Jr, Robert and Janet Ciulla both of Mechanicville and Dr. Richard (Kathy Wisoff) Ciulla, MD of Halfmoon, daughters: Joann and Gary Noxon of Malta and Cathy (Mike Miller) Dunn of Mechanicville, grandchildren: Lisa Capasso, Jennifer Van Ort, Michael, David, Stephen, Alex, Matthew, Emily and Stephanie Ciulla, Samantha Noxon, Heath and Seth Dunn, along with great grandchildren Allison Capasso, Kyle and Shawn Ciulla.  Also his two sisters Patricia Tanski Wiltsey and Agnes Woodin both of Halfmoon, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.

John  was predeceased by his brothers Sam and James Cuilla, Sr. and brother-in-law Charles D’Avignon.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Thursday at St. Luke’s on the Hill Church, 40 McBride Rd, Mechanicville.  Burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Calling hours at St. Lukes on the Hill Church on Wednesday from 4 PM till 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either St. Luke’s Church or Arvin Hart Fire Dept with Riverside Scholarship Fund written in the memo section.

Michael Stephen “Rocky” Noradki

Michael Stephen "Rocky" Noradki of West Street,  passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at his residence. He was 64.

Born in Halfmoon on January 19, 1949, son of the late Stephen Michael and Gladys (Butcher) Noradki. He is the husband of Diane (Cary) Noradki, whom he married on March 18, 1972. Rocky was a graduate of Shenedahowa School System, class of 1968. He retired from General Electric Company in Waterford. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially in his RV and hunting and fishing with his son and grandson. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he also loved riding his Harley Davidson.

Survivors in addition to his wife Diane of 41 years include their children, Melissa (Fred) Test and Rennie Noradki both of Mechanicville, his siblings, Dan (Beth) McCarthy of Halfmoon, Mary Ellen Salisbury of Queensbury, Irene Spiedel of Ballston Spa and Peter (Sharon) Noradki  of Round Lake as well as five grandchildren; Ryan and Shannon Test and Laura, Maggie and Kimmy Noradki.

Predeceased by sisters Karen Noradki-Cummings and Geraldine McCarthy.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Monday, December 2 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville.   Kindly consider memorials to the Wildwood Schools or to the Special Olympics in memory of Rocky.
