The Courage of Calgary

By Sandy McBride

Back in the 1950’s Tom and I and a lot of our friends belonged to a riding club that did the gymkhana circuit all around the area of Saratoga, Washington, Rensselaer and Schenectady Counties.  We all fancied ourselves pretty cool dudes, racing our horses in arenas in such fun events as the stake race, pony express, rescue race and spear-ring.  I like to think we were among the forerunners of today’s highly competitive barrel racers, because barrel racing was a particularly favored event.

Being horsemen, we attended the occasional rodeo, loving the excitement of watching cowboys versus bucking broncos, wily steers and big bad bulls.

Wednesday mornings, "a tall order for all of you."  Town Supervisor Paul Sausville added that between those, and Town staff meetings on the matter on Fridays, the grand total was "at least forty meetings," and a great deal of technical work by the experts, during the collaborative process.

imageAndy is a very sweet, mature lady who is housebroken and gets along well with children, dogs, and cats. She looks to be a Lab/Collie mix and, as with all HOPE pets, is up to date on her shots. Andy is a young 10 years old so she would be free to a senior adopter (65+).

imageRyder is about 2 years old and appears to be a Collie/Border Collie mix. He is affectionate with people he knows and who are calm & gentle with him. Ryder is playful and would do well with another dog who is confident, but not overwhelming. Ryder may be a good agility candidate; he has tried it and did well. This dog is a smart one who will likely be very happy to be engaged with all kinds of tasks/activities/jobs. He is looking for a home without younger kids. Of course, Ryder is neutered and up to date on shots.

imageBobby is a 5-month old black male cat. It's hard to see in the pictures, but he has a cute, little stubby tail- about 2" long! Bobby gets along well with children- his foster mom reports that her 9-year old can pick Bobby up and carry him around and Bobby is fine with it. Bobby is healthy and very sweet!

If you are interested in learning more about Andy, Ryder or Bobby, please call H.O.P.E. at 518.428.2994 or, to fill out an online Adoption Application, visitwww.hopeanimalrescue.org!
