Troy Files Lawsuit to Claim Schaghticoke Property – By Christine Barton
Rensselaer County- The towns of Schaghticoke, Brunswick and North Greenbush were recently informed through a legal petition filed by the city of Troy that 67 properties throughout these three municipalities were determined to fall in the legal boundaries City of Troy. The City of Troy recently conducted its first citywide reassessment project since the 1970’s. The company that conducted the project was GAR Associates. Inc. It was through the photographs taken during the project that identified that these properties were positioned technically in the taxing jurisdiction of the city. While the bordering municipalities have had these properties on their assessment rolls for years, this discovery prompted Troy to file a petition to have these properties added to the city’s assessment rolls and eliminate them from the rolls of the municipalities that they are currently being taxed under. Of the 67 properties in question, 55 were located in Brunswick, five were in North Greenbush and seven were in Schaghticoke.
