John A. Zecca – 87

MECHANICVILLE – John A. Zecca, 87, lifelong resident of Mechanicville, died Monday morning, March 25th, at Maplewood Manor, following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 30, 1925, son of the late Augustus and Florence Zecca, John who was lovingly called “Tails” by family and longtime friends, served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Mrs. Agnes “Shirley” Rathbun – 85

STILLWATER – Mrs. Agnes “Shirley” Rathbun, 85, of County Road 75, died Monday, March 18that Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, following an extended illness.

Born and educated in Pittsfield, Mass, daughter of the late Louis and Blanche Laramee, Shirley was the wife of the late Donald A. Rathbun who died in 2011 and mother of a late daughter Linda Jacques.  A registrar’s secretary for Russell Sage College for years, she also was a former admissions secretary at Emma Willard School both of Troy. She and her late husband had operated Rathbun’s Dollhouse in Eagle Mills for 7 years.

John Mark “Ponzi” Ponzillo – 74

MECHANICVILLE – John Mark “Ponzi” Ponzillo, 74, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus, Friday, March 15thA native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born May 15, 1938, son of the late Mark and Jennie Forte Ponzillo, he was a 1955 graduate of Mechanicville High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, as an Admirals guard while at sea. As the owner operator of Ponzi’s Hairstyling Center in Mechanicville for over 45 years, Ponzi enjoyed friendships with his many loyal customers, both male and female.

Catherine “Kate” Izzo – 90

MECHANICVILLE – Catherine “Kate” Russo Izzo, 90, of Saratoga Ave., died Tuesday morning March 12th at Maplewood Manor, after an extended illness.  A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born June 1, 1922, daughter of the late Salvatore and Frances Parente Russo, she was a 1940 graduate of Mechanicville High School and had attended Oneonta State College.

Michael D. Holder – 59

MECHANICVILLE – Michael D. Holder, 59, of Van Vranken St, Schenectady, died suddenly Friday evening, March 8th, at Ellis Hospital, after being stricken at home.  Born in Vallejo, Ca. November 14, 1953, he is son of Mertie Izzo of Las Vegas, Nv. and the late Tony Izzo and Horace Holder.  Mike grew up in California and moved to the Capital District in the early 1980’s.

Currently a warehouseman for Wal-Mart of Rotterdam, he had also been a selector for Sysco of Halfmoon for almost 20 years.

Lynn Robinson

Lynn Robinson (Linda Whalen), born July 8th, 1951, formerly of Hemstreet Park, and recently of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away on February 3rd, 2013 at Hardin Memorial Hospital.   Lynn died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and had suffered with it for many years.  Lynn was buried in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff, KY with full military honors.

Lynn was a 1969 graduate of Mechanicville High School and Colonna Beauty School in Albany, NY.  She enlisted with the New York State Army National Guard in 1977 and had various assignments, including a security detail during the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY.

Ralph “Eddie” Natalie – 60

MECHANICVILLE – Ralph “Eddie” Natalie, 60, former resident of Mechanicville, died suddenly Monday, March 4th at Knox Woods, Halfmoon, of a heart attack.

Born in Troy, November 6, 1952, he was the son of the late Vincent James and Irene Natalie, was educated in Mechanicville schools.  He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

A machine operator with the General Electric of Schenectady for a number of years, Eddie was a talented wood worker, who enjoyed music, movies and had once been a Harley Davidson motorcycle owner.
