City Charter and Code Approval

MECHANICVILLE, August 7– The City of Mechanicville will hold the last of a series of informational public hearings on Sept. 4, following one held at the August 7 meeting council meeting.
While hearings so far have been of a less formal nature, Accounts Commission Mark Seber explained that the August 7 discussion covered about half of the proposed Code updates; and the Sept 4 meeting will address the remaining half. The plan, explained Seber, is on the first week in October, at the 7:00 PM Council meeting, to hold an official, required by law, Public Hearing on both documents; and to hold a vote that night if there are no changes to be considered.

Kayaking4Meso

Calling all kayakers! The time is now to sign up for a challenging and enjoyable paddle down the beautiful and historic Hudson River from Schuylerville or Stillwater to Mechanicville to raise funds for research seeking a cure for mesothelioma. Mark Wells, organizer of Kayaking4Meso, is hoping that 200 kayakers will join him in the third year of this event which will be held on September 21.

Mrs. Viola M. Wright – 87
MECHANICVILLE - Mrs. Viola M. Wright, 87, of River Road, Hemstreet Park, died Tuesday, August 13, at Crescent Manor Care Ctr in Bennington, Vt., following an extended illness.
Born in Troy, April 9, 1926, daughter of the late Legrand and Emma Salway Clements, Viola was the widow of Raymond Wright who died in 1981.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in Stillwater Union Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 PM.
Remembrances may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc. in memory of Viola M. Wright.

Philomena Fabio LeBarron McClenning – 80
MECHANICVILLE – Philomena Fabio LeBarron McClenning, 80, former longtime resident of Mechanicville, died Sunday, August 11th, in Lake Wales, Florida, after an extended illness.
A native of Mechanicville, born April 29, 1933, daughter of the late James and Anna Colucci Fabio, Phil and husband lived in Lake Wales for the last 19 years.
A former bookkeeper at Montgomery Wards in Menands, Phil had been a homemaker.
Phil was a woman who had an outgoing personality and quick wit, someone that was fun to be near. She loved to dance, sing and have a good time with all. Along with her deceased sister Marcella, those two were like a comedy act, lighting up people with jokes and wonderful stories.
She had been a member of Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Ted LeBarron, who died in 1989, along with sibling brothers Camillo and Dominick Fabio and sisters Marcella DeMicco, Theresa Mariano and Josephine Groncznaik.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Jack McClenning, son Joseph LeBarron of Ballston Spa and daughter Mary Ann Stefanik of Glens Falls. Also two grandsons Luke and Logan Hoffis. Step-children: Richard McClenning of Argyle, Mary Reid of Amsterdam, Judy Jackson of Burlington, Linda Compuesto and Lisa Aggrawal both of Colorado, and in-laws Ida Fabio of Mechanicville and George Gronczniak.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Thursday from 5-7 PM.
Remembrances may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. in loving memory of Philomena McClenning.
