Tentative Saratoga Co. Budget – By Harold Wessell

BALLSTON SPA, October 31 – Despite costs still rising, it will cost the owner of a $200,000 home in Saratoga County only a couple bucks more – literally – to keep the government going in 2014.

"For the past three years, Saratoga County has taken a very aggressive approach toward reducing the expense side of our budget," said County Administrator Spencer Hellwig III at a press conference Thursday presenting the 2014 Tentative County Budget. "We are now beginning to see the fruits of those labors.  Our operating budget is stabilizing, and in 2014 we will have our lowest anticipated usage of fund balance in seven years.  At the same time, our tax rates are still among the lowest in the state.  The 2014 Tentative Budget will continue to implement a decisive program to restore Saratoga County's financial stability."

Food For Fines at Mechanicville Library – By Jennifer Dugan

The holiday season can be particularly hard on food pantries as they struggle to keep up with demand. The Mechanicville District Public Library has stepped up to lend a helping hand with their unique Food for Fines programs. Throughout the month of November, library patrons may clear up library fines, return overdue materials and help line the shelves of the local food pantry, all at the same time.

Hawley F. Waldron, Jr. – 89

MECHANICVILLE – Hawley F. Waldron, Jr., 89, of Hemstreet Park, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 5th, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, following an extended illness.

Hawley’s family thanks the staffs at Albany Medical Center, Samaritan Hospital and the Fennimore unit at Schuyler Ridge of Clifton Park for the care, compassion and concern shown to Hawley and his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 Am at St. Luke’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, McBride Rd, Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Calling hours at the Church on Thursday from 4-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either St. Luke’s Church or the Hemstreet Park Fire Dept., in loving memory of Hawley F. Waldron, Jr.

Catherine M. (Brunick) LeClair – 73

MELSROSE - Catherine M. (Brunick) LeClair of Maple Lane passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at her residence with her loving family at her side. She was 73.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, November 4 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Delphia V. SantaBarbara – 91

MECHANICVILLE –  Delphia V. SantaBarbara, 91 of Maple St., died Wednesday evening surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Plainfield, NJ on February 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Boumpane Croat.
