MECHANICVILLE – Leona McBride Serbalik, 87, of West St., Riverside, died Easter Sunday evening, March 31st., at Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital,Albany. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born October 20, 1925, daughter of the late William and Clara Wojtowicz McBride. She was a member of the Class of 1942 of Mechanicville High School. During her teen years, Leona joined the family farm where she worked, but was most proud of the care she provided to her siblings.
In 1946 she married John Serbalik, who had returned from the Italian battlefields of WWII. Early in life she worked at the former Central Market in Troy.
While raising her own family, she and her husband, with partners Dominick Funaro and Val Serbalik, ran the former Riverside Grocery, the former Mechanicville Bus Terminal, Val’s News Room, and the Coffee Shop.
